Prince Fielder traded for Ian Kinsler

Postby SpecialFNK » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:31 pm

boom!

The Tigers and Rangers have agreed on a deal that would send Prince Fielder to the Rangers in exchange for Ian Kinsler, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting.
Well, that was fast. It was recently learned by Heyman that the two sides were discussing such a deal, and it now seems the deal has been agreed upon, at least in principal. The deal would be pending a physical and it could include another player as well, Heyman said. Fielder also has a limited no-trade clause, and it's unsure if the Rangers are on that list.

thoughts?

I'm thinking Texas is going to be getter a top tier 1B. Detroit is getting, meh.

Kinsler away from Texas.

13- .263/ .317/ .418/ .735
12- .220/ .290/ .321/ .611
11- .214/ .302/ .428/ .730
10- .257/ .322/ .388/ .710
09- .219/ .285/ .387/ .672

..and what does this do for Miguel Cabrera's protection?

the good move for Detroit is that is does free up more money.

Detroit is getting the money to sign Scherzer.
If it's obvious it's probably true.

Texas will always be getting $50 million.
The Tigers will give the Rangers $30 million as part of the trade sending Prince Fielder to the Rangers in exchange for Ian Kinsler, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.
Passan said the final deal will be Fielder for Kinsler straight up, with the $30 million going to the Rangers to help offset the remaining $168 million on Fielder's nine-year deal signed before the 2012 season. Kinsler himself still has four years and $57 million left on his deal. The deal likely allows the Tigers the financial room to sign Max Scherzer to a long-term deal rather than dealing him this offseason, as they'd been speculated to be considering.

I have to think Cabrera moves back to 1B. so this opens up another hole for the Tigers.

I think this is one of those deals where both teams win. Tigers get to keep Scherzer, and move Cabrera to 1st. A defensive 3B and the TIgers are better with the addition of Kinsler.

Rangers get better with opportunity for youngsters and an established power bat at 1B.

"Better" is a relative term. I don't know if each team is better, but I think each team thinks they are better after this deal.

Plus Fielder in that ballpark and we could see his HR totals jump. It was well documented that Detroit was likely to suppress his power so moving to such a hitters park should really help. Biggest problem for Texas is that they have him for 7 more years and I am not sure that won't come back to bite them.

Detroit's gotta be happy getting rid of that contract, though not if you're just going to up and give the money to Scherzer now. If they get him for a reasonable (relative term) price, this is a nice win for them. If you're Texas, in terms of talent and production, you've gotta feel like it's a win for you as well. But being stuck under Fielder's contract is a scary proposition if and when he stops producing at a top tier level. You could see a nice spike in offensive output with the stadium in Arlington, but he's there for the better part of the next decade, which is terrifying from a financial perspective, even with the $30 million exchange.

I think Fielder's fantasy value just got a nice bump.

Funny how the Rangers turned a top SS prospect into problem. Giving Andrus and Kinsler big contracts and then trading Kinsler for a bigger contract to play Profar.

Good trade for both teams right now, Rangers will be hurting the latter part of Fielders contract though.
