Its a great offseason to be a closer! Do you guys figure the Indians fill their spot with a proven veteran free agent or do they turn it over to one of their internal possibilities? I was high on Pestano a year ago but the arm problems have me a bit concerned.

We've been hearing about Pestano for what feels like forever now. It's gotta be at least three seasons. I think his time has come and gone, and Cleveland will turn elsewhere.

I would think they go with one of the in house canidates. It doesn't sound like there is a lot of money left to spend and SP seems like it would be more of a priority.

Is it possible that they continue to use Masterson in the role? I would imagine that he'd price himself out of that spot, but he seems to be a good fit for short inning duties. If not, I'm sure that they can piece the late innings in with what they have. I was also waiting on Pestano for a couple of seasons. To be honest though, he was nothing special even when he was right. It's a warm body with decent stuff that could provide saves & give decent strikeout totals. I don't see Cleveland going with anyone outside of the organization. It could turn into a situation that screams "avoid" by March. A lot can happen between now and then. There is no use speculating on closers at this stage in the offseason.

Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw seem to be the most likely candidates.
