Let's assume RE: Tanaka

Postby BigLebowski » Fri Nov 08, 2013 10:16 pm

Let's assume that he is posted and goes to the Yankee's. Great control which should lead to very good ratio's. K's not near the Darvish range, but could he be more valuable than Darvish as soon as 2014? I really don't know what to expect as far as K's go from Tanaka, but that is his downfall in comparison to Darvish who is a K machine. Any guesses on rankings if the Yankee thing comes true?

Darvish is a true number 1 starter, from everything I've read and the few video's Ive seen Tanaka is probably a 3 maybe a 2, and I see Dodger Blue in his future. ;-D

This is what I've read about him too. That he doesn't project to be a true Ace, but potentially a solid middle of the rotation guy. No idea where he ends up.

I don't think he is ever as good as Darvish.
The reports I've read compare him to Kuroda. Great control, average fastball and slider with an unbelievable splitter. Fantasy wise I'd gamble on him as my #2 if he signs with the Dodgers or #3 with the Yankees.

Hmm, a little confused with that statement. A number 2 if he signs with the Dodgers but a number 3 if he signs with the Yankees? I would think with the Dodgers he would probably a number 4 after Kershaw, Greinke, and Ryu. With the Yankees wouldn't he arguably be a number 1?

Oops, my bad. I see what you're saying now. That he would be a number 2 on YOUR fantasy team, not on the Dodgers.
Sorry about that.

I would expect him to be ranked ahead of Ryu.

Without an agreement, Japanese players would not be able to sign with MLB until they had nine years of service time and could become free agents.

Manfred said MLB owners were concerned that bidding under the old system had raised prices to a level many clubs could not afford.

Kind of like the every other big free agent. :-?
