Pick Final Three Keepers!!! WHIR!!!

Postby sman79 » Fri Oct 04, 2013 6:02 pm

I am in a ten team league that utilized the following stats - Runs (R), Hits (H), Triples (3B), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP) and Wins (W), Complete Games (CG), Shutouts (SHO), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Walk Ratio (K/BB).

Basically, I'm looking for help selecting 9 of the following players to keep.

C Yadier Molina
1B Paul Goldschmidt ;-D
2B Ian Kinsler ;-D
3B Ryan Zimmerman
SS Ian Desmond
OF Carlos Gonzalez ;-D
OF Sin-Soo Choo
OF Chris Davis ;-D
Util Adam Lind
BN Marlon Byrd

SP Matt Cain
SP Cliff Lee ;-D
RP Fernando Rodney
RP Joe Nathan
P Madison Bumgarner ;-D
P Doug Fister
P Wade Miley
P Joaquin Benoit
BN Mike Leake
BN Jhoulys Chacin
BN Kevin Correia
BN Bronson Arroyo

I'm positive on these six for sure but hoping for some advice on the final three.

Leave a link and I'll try to help you out as well. Thanks!

Wow, lots of overlapping in your offensive stat categories... I really don't like those categories.

I'd take Zimmerman, Choo and Desmond as your other 3 keepers.

Yeah, the stat categories are pretty redundant in some cases but this is a league that I've been in with friends for about five years so I continue participating. The complete game one cost me in the playoffs as another owner picked up a player who had a six inning complete game (due to rain) so I wound up losing pretty much because of that one category and finished the year third rather than first (stats in the third place game for my team were way above the two participating in the final). Oh well, there's always next year!

Also, thank you for the answer. They are definitely three of the remaining ones I'm having a hard time deciding among. It just seems like pitching can be had far easier than hitting as I was able to pick up a lot of those pitchers either later in the draft or off the waiver wire/free agency.

Exactly. I much prefer hitting over pitching as keepers, and you clearly have to keep Lee and Bumgarner so there's no need for a 3rd SP.

I don't like any other of your pitchers to keep, so here's my list:

For sure:
C Yadier Molina
SS Ian Desmond
and

OF Sin-Soo Choo or 3B Ryan Zimmerman

Personally: Zimmerman is way overrated, injury prone and he just sucks. I'm sick of him, so I would keep Choo and pickup Gyorko instead.

Yes, Desmond. Choo, and Yadi are my three as well.
Gyorko available???

Package Zimmerman and Byrd for a good young 3b with some risk (maybe Donaldson or Machado!)
