Ask the dog: your offseason needs

Postby MadDog36 » Sat Sep 28, 2013 2:21 pm

If you have a keeper or big offseason trade question leave it here and I'll try to answer it when I get my computer back up and running. Also, I have a question for you if someone don't mind dropping me the answer - let's say Atlanta and St. Louis tie for the best record in the NL. and between the two teams who gets the home-field advantage during a potential playoff series?

Leave em - give me a while I'm temporarily disabled from internet access and I do not have a working mouse.

The Braves beat the Cardinals in their season series, so if they end up with the same record, the Braves get HFA and play the wild card in the first round.

My league is a 10 team, 6x6 roto (OPS and holds), $270 budget, plus 5 bench spots
We can keep 5 players at a 10% salary increase and 3 more with their salary doubled. In addition to picking 8, can you rank all of them because hopefully I can do a 3 for 1 deal. I've listed their current salaries. Also, I don't mind not keeping a pitcher. I didn't keep one last year.

1B Goldschmidt 4
1B Belt 2
1B Rizzo 2
1B Adams 1
2B Carpenter 3
2B Kendrick 1
SS Segura 2
SS E. Cabrera 2
OF Craig 5
OF Bruce 18
OF Gomez 11
OF Heyward 10
OF Stanton 22
SP Wheeler 1

1. Pick 2:
A Simmons
T d'Arnaud
C Granderson
J Werth

Very competitive 12 player H2H keeper league with 12 keepers. I'm leaning towards the 1st 2 since I think Grandy/Werth are on their way out

2. Another league 16 player H2H. Check these pitching categories: SV, HLD, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, K/9, QS. Keep 10.

Keepers for sure:
1 M Bumgarner
2 F Hernandez
3 M Scherzer
4 J Fernandez
5 A Jones
6 J Ellsbury
7 W Myers
8 S Marte

Pick 2:
J Zimmerman
D Price
R Zimmerman
C Santana

Obviously Zimmerman had a career year, and Price is the 2012 CYY. However in this league wins don't count, and Ks do. However, I'm sick of R-Zim. I'm leaning C Santana and D Price. Note: I just won this league. :)

I'm in a 10 team H2H auction league. 6x6 scoring with the standard 10 categories with OBP added for hitters and K/BB added for pitchers. $260 budget. The price to keep a guy goes up $5 every year.

Here is the list of hitter candidates and how much they will cost to keep for 2014.

Pedroia: $33
Encarnacion: $31
Donaldson: $10
Hanley: $9
Rios: $16
Myers $10
J Upton: $34
A Jackson: $13
Gordon: $9

Here is the list of pitching candidates and how much they will cost to keep for 2014:
Shelby Miller: $10
Cliff Lee $30
J Zimmerman: $17
Medlen: $16

My basic thoughts were that Donaldson and Hanley were locks and I was feeling pretty strongly about Myers (do I want someone a bit more proven over a full season?). Rios had a monster year, but his year to year inconsistency scares me a bit. Because it is such a shallow league I thought maybe 4 bats was the way to go, but Shelby at 10 bucks is pretty enticing. Lee is a beast (particularly because of K/BB) and pretty much carried my staff to the title this year, but he is old and I probably wouldn't keep him more than next season. Zimmerman and Medlen are a bit light on K's. Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks.

20 team, 10 keepers

Pts league, standard except K's don't count against batters and we have 9 starts/week. My keerers:

C: Zunino
1B: Goldschmidt
OF: Myers
OF: Bautista
OF: Stanton
Util: Butler

SP: Harvey
SP: Darvish
SP: Gio
SP: T. Walker

Other Notables: Wong, Syndergaard, Martin Perez, Ubaldo.

Those top 10 I'm fairly sure on, the others are just upside guys. I'm handcuffed on OF and Util since we start 3 with 1 utility. Mulling over some trade ideas, something like this to shore up one of those other positions. Hard to do with such a deep league.

Bautista, Gio for Bailey, Puig, and Arenado.

Overall thoughts on my keepers and that trade offer? Thanks for the help!

Well, that is fun of you.

League is AL/NL mixed 5x5. $260 budget.

I have to pick 7 total players from my team to keep. I have started to identify who to keep and could use some advice. I was horrible in power and K’s this year, but a lot of that could be from rest of team.

Likely keeping for certain (unless case is made to change my mind)
1. Will Myers OF $7
2. Stephen Strasburg SP $10
3. Bryce Harper OF $10
4. Yasiel Puig OF $6

I would then have to pull 3 from this group (or else one of these instead of one of top 4). As you can see I have fantastic price points on all of these options:
5. Shelby Miller SP $6 – great rookie year obviously. Hard to tell how much upside but price is so cheap
6. Dominic Brown OF $4 – how much of that year was real? More upside? Too cheap to pass up?
7. Clay Buchholz SP $4 – health?
8. Josh Donaldson $4 – a fluke? Maybe too cheap to pass up here
9. James Shields $13 - I like this price and him, but his age gives me fewer years than just how young rest of team is
10. Matt Moore $16 – maybe I could buy him again around this price? The money is still good but not nearly like others

Brown seems a great one yet would be 4th OF. I would keep him And Donaldson but there is so much good VERY cheap pitching there.

Any thoughts are appreciated – I have time but never too early to start thinking about this.

Thanks!

MadDog... always appreciate your input!

The long version is here (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=464237).

Here's the short version:
16-team, 6x6 H2H keeper league where we keep 6 players each season. I finished in 3rd place this season

1) Who are my 6 keepers for 2014?
2) What positions should I look t upgrade for my keepers and who should I target for those upgrades?
3) Are there any of my non-keepers that you could see me being able to package to try to acquire the #1 overall pick to essentially have 7 keepers?

Here’s my roster going into the off-season:
C Jonathan Lucroy (Mil - C,1B)
1B Anthony Rizzo (ChC - 1B)
2B Dustin Pedroia (Bos - 2B)
3B Brett Lawrie (Tor - 2B,3B)
SS Hanley Ramírez (LAD - 3B,SS)
LF Alex Gordon (KC - LF)
CF Shin-Soo Choo (Cin - CF,RF)
RF Jay Bruce (Cin - RF)
Util Hunter Pence (SF - RF)
BN Jhonny Peralta (Det - SS)
BN Matt Adams (StL - 1B)

SP Madison Bumgarner (SF - SP)
SP Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP)
SP Ubaldo Jiménez (Cle - SP)
SP José Quintana (CWS - SP)
RP Jim Henderson (Mil - RP)
RP LaTroy Hawkins (NYM - RP)
P Pedro Strop (ChC - RP)
BN Jarrod Parker (Oak - SP)
BN A.J. Griffin (Oak - SP)
BN Kyle Lohse (Mil - SP)
BN Hiroki Kuroda (NYY - SP)
DL Brandon Beachy (Atl - SP)

Well its that time of year again...trying to figure out next years keepers.
We protect 11 this year, 10 next year, in a standard 10 team 5x5 league with a twist, we also use OBP.
16 act hitters, 2 at each infield position and 6 OF with 1/2 of each position in reserve.
10 active pitchers minimum 6 SP and 2 RP again with 1/2 of each in reserve.
My roster after 1st cuts. We have a complete redraft in 2016.
C) Joe Mauer
1B) David Ortiz, Albert Pujols
2B) Jose Altuve
SS) Elvis Andrus
OF) Jose Bautista
Michael Cuddyer
Matt Kemp
Torii Hunter
Christian Yellich
SP) Yu Darvish
Stephen Strasburg
Justin Verlander
Cole Hamels
Jose Fernandez
Mike Minor
Taijuan Walker
RP) Koji Uehara
Sergio Romo
I'm trying to trade pitching for hitting but in case i cant swing any deals...which 11
would you keep?
WHIR, thanks, Scott
