Pick up Springer? WHIR.

Postby unbigote » Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:30 pm

Realize he might not help me this year, and I'm in the thick of it in a H2H keeper league (duking it out for first place with two weeks left). I'm not sure who I should drop if I pick him up (probably LaRoche). Thoughts?

Can keep 6, but only one player in the first round next year, next year's round value is in parenthesis.

Catcher: Castro (23)
First Base: Votto (1)
Second Base: Kipnis (2)
Shortstop: Segura (23)
Third Base: Beltre (1)
Infield: A. Gon (1)
Outfield: Harper (16)
Outfield: Werth (12)
Outfield: McCutchen (1)
Outfield: Yelich (23)
Utility: M. Carpenter (23)
Utility: Kipnis (2)
Bench: LaRoche (9)
DL: Mauer (2)
DL: Kemp (1)

Starting Pitcher: Kershaw (1)
Starting Pitcher: Scherzer (2)
Relief Pitcher: K. Jansen (11)
Relief Pitcher: Rivera (5)
Pitcher: Kimbrell (7)
Pitcher: Zeigler (23)
Pitcher Fister (8)
Bench: Weaver (1)
Bench: D. Price (1)
Bench: T. Walker (23)
Bench: M. Perez (23)

Right now I'm leaning towards McCutchen, Harper, Segura, Carpenter with the last two spots still to be decided.

Starting Pitcher: Kershaw (1)
Starting Pitcher: Scherzer (2)
Starting Pitcher: Price OR RP Kimbrel in the 7th isn't bad either.

There is no way I'd consider keeping Springer over some of your other players not over these studs, besides you already have Yelich who I view as a superior long term option.

Unfortunately I can only keep one of the first rounders (Price, McCutchen, Kershaw). I was thinking Jansen in the 11th would trump Kimbrell in the 7th as far as keeping a closer--which I'm reluctant to do. What do you think?

As far as Springer goes, I realize his strikeout totals are a bit troubling, but his walk rate is impressive, and he has improved in both areas as he has moved up levels. Seems like a potential 30-30 guy. His strikeouts aren't worse than Wil Myers' numbers in the minors, and his walk rate is superior; Myers is looking like a pretty damn good pro (actually traded him as part of a deal to get Kershaw/Jansen).

Didn't even see Jansen! Sorry. Only keep one first rounder?

Can you reorder with I can keep one of: ___
and one of : ____ , ____ etc etc

Definitely keep Price in the 7th that's a steal for an ace pitcher.

So:

Shortstop: Segura (23)
Outfield: Harper (16)
Starting Pitcher: Kershaw (1) - worth it bro. #1 fantasy pitcher.
Starting Pitcher: Bench: D. Price (7)
Springer = BJ Upton Jr (you want that headache?)

You have some insane talent its a shame you have to throw Votto or Beltre out. :(
Can you only keep 4 and be done with it?

I don't think I've thanked you for all the help yet, thanks!

- I will be picking either 11th or 12th in the first round of a snake draft (as my final position determines where I draft next year).

- I can keep six total players. Seems like Carpenter (23), Segura (23) and Harper(16) are easy decisions. Kimbrell (7), Jansen (11), T. Walker (23) and Yelich (23) are good options. I don't think using a second round pick on Scherzer or Kipnis is smart because I am pretty certain I can get either at the beginning of the second round next year (if I wanted them).

- There is some confusion regarding Price, he is also a 1st round pick next year, not a 7th rounder, quite unfortunately.

- I have the option of taking one of the following: Kershaw, McCutchen, Price, Votto, AGon, Kemp, Beltre, Pedroia and Weaver. I have so many first rounders because each player moves up two rounds from the previous year and I was active in the trade market--anyone in taken in rounds 1 through 3 this year counts as a round 1 pick next year.

- Of those its really down to Kershaw and McCutchen.

I hadn't considered the Upton/Springer comparison... actually was unfamiliar with his minor league numbers until I read your response. Was hoping for a poor man's Trout/Kemp not a BJ Upton, yikes.
