Which outfielders for a playoff run?

Postby oxhammer » Fri Aug 23, 2013 4:24 pm

I'm currently 2nd in a 10 team, standard 5x5 head-to-head league. Trying to eye the playoffs. Available outfielders are Desmond Jennings, Nate Schierholtz, Will Venable, Norichika Aoki, Coco Crisp, and Raul Ibanez. Based on my lineup and the season stats, should I pick up any of those free agents? If so, who do I drop?

Crazy as this sounds (but the stats don't lie) I would consider letting Crawford go who has done very little in counting stats when healthy for Jennings. He'll give you a small boost in homers and definitely in SB. For the playoffs i like combo players, so Venable would be next up for me maybe in place of Castro...but with Hanley's healthy risk maybe you can hold off there. Ibanez has all but fallen off the pace. You need a boost in SB and power (which I think you could sneak into another position, but the next guy is tied with you in SB so break that tie at least you'll gain a little).

Thanks MadDog. I'm actually considering going a different direction with this now. I only have Reed and Balfour for closers. I can't compete with any teams on saves unless I just happen to get lucky one week. A two week championship means that wouldn't happen. Either I pick up De La Roas - Angels new closer? - or I drop my closers and instead could pick up an outfielder for speed and an outfielder for power. In which case, I would be choosing to pick out of these: Desmond Jennings, Nate Schierholtz, Will Venable, Norichika Aoki, Coco Crisp, Raul Ibanez, Ichiro Suzuki, and Eric Young Jr. I'm leaning toward Jennings and Venable, like you suggested. Power outfield would be Holliday, Cespedes, Venable with Zimmerman at DH. Speed outfield would be Crawford, Bourne, Jennings with Venable at DH. Thoughts?
