Deadline Deal - Cueto/Rizzo/12th for Butler/3rd? (WHIR)

Postby Knights » Sun Aug 18, 2013 1:23 pm

16-team 6x6 H2H keeper league (keep 6). I'm looking pretty good for the playoffs, but the trade deadline is today and I'm exploring all option.

Anthony Rizzo has been very frustrating this season, and I'm kind of worried with him going into the playoffs. Should I look at trying to acquire Billy Butler, who has been heating up? Or will he just end up being most of the same frustration?

I've also been trying to ship off Johnny Cueto for a pick within the first 3 rounds of next years draft, because I won't be keeping Cueto and I'd like to re-acquire a 3rd round pick (or better) since I traded my 3rd rounder earlier in the season to get Jay Bruce.

So long story short... what do you think if I were to offer up my Johnny Cueto, Anthony Rizzo and a 12th round pick (or later) for Billy Butler and a 3rd round pick (or earlier)?

Would that be progress for my playoff drive and 2014 season, or am I offering too much?

Here's my roster:
C Jonathan Lucroy (Mil - C)
1B Anthony Rizzo (ChC - 1B)
2B Dustin Pedroia (Bos - 2B)
3B Brett Lawrie (Tor - 2B,3B)
SS Hanley Ramirez (LAD - 3B,SS)
LF Alex Gordon (KC - LF)
CF Shin-Soo Choo (Cin - CF,RF)
RF Jay Bruce (Cin - RF)
Util Hunter Pence (SF - RF)
BN Stephen Drew (Bos - SS)
DL Angel Pagan (SF - CF) DL

SP Madison Bumgarner (SF - SP)
SP Brandon Beachy (Atl - SP)
SP Hiroki Kuroda (NYY - SP)
SP Jarrod Parker (Oak - SP)
RP Edward Mujica (StL - RP)
RP Jim Henderson (Mil - RP)
P LaTroy Hawkins (NYM - RP)
BN Kyle Lohse (Mil - SP)
BN Dan Straily (Oak - SP)
BN A.J. Griffin (Oak - SP)
BN Jonathon Niese (NYM - SP)
DL Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP) DL

I would try to upgrade at 3b or LF before 1b. Rizzo is very solid.

For what you are offering should be able to do better than Butler IMO

I don't like it. You are overpaying for Butler who isn't very exciting.
