Trading Miguel Cabrera In a Keeper WHIR

Postby kevinbaseballer » Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:49 am

Am I insane in thinking of doing this?

The way my keeper league works is you can keep 4 Players and they cost you the draft pick from the round you drafted them in. Undrafted players take your 25th pick and you keep them there.

Miguel Cabrera is my 1st pick.
I've been offered these 3 deals:

A 2 & 9 Round pick

Evan Longoria & 5th Round Pick

Eric Hosmer (20th Round Potential New Keeper) & 2nd Round

Trading him would free up 1st Round Pick and gain me several higher round draft picks.

My other potential keepers:
Yasiel Puig - 15th Round (profiles at 3rd Round based on our stats)
Matt Carpenter - 25th Round (profiles at 3rd Round based on our stats)
Mike Minor - 14th Round
Julio Teheran -25th Round
Brian McCann - 25th Round
Xander Bogarts -25th Round
Jurkison Profar - 25th Round
Brandon Beachy - 25th Round
Matt Garza - 25th Round

My goal is keep as many low round keepers that perform at a much higher level but MCab is a monster. What to do what to do

I'm confused... is that one deal or three?

I'm assuming it's three separate deals, but wanted to clarify.

Who else is on your roster? I agree with the drafting plan in theory, but there are some players that are better to have regardless of any other factor. MCab is probably one of those players, IMO, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing the rest of your roster.

You should also look at the other teams and their likely keepers - are you sure you will be able to get adequate value if you take the extra draft picks? If you are the only one in your league using this draft strategy, you could find yourself missing out on top level talent.
As of 8/4/13
C:Napoli 1B:Goldshmidt 2B:Kinsler, Gyorko SS:Tulo, Profar 3B:Longoria, Machado, Middlebrooks OF:Harper, J. Upton, AGon, R. Davis, Venable SP:Scherzer, Minor, Ryu, E.Santana, Beachy, Samardzja, J.Johnson (DL), T.Ross RP:Perez, Rodney, Farquar

Sorry for the confusion those are 3 separate offers.

The rest of the roster I'm considering
Yasiel Puig - 15th Round (profiles at 3rd Round based on our stats)
Matt Carpenter - 25th Round (profiles at 3rd Round based on our stats)

Aaron Hill - 5th Round
Alex Rios - 7th Round
Matt Cain - 6th Round
Mike Minor - 14th Round
Julio Teheran -25th Round
Brian McCann - 25th Round
Xander Bogarts -25th Round
Jurkison Profar - 25th Round
Brandon Beachy - 25th Round
Matt Garza - 25th Round

For the most I'm the only one exploiting the market like this but for instance players in our 1st rounds available: Adam Wainwright, Adrian Beltre, Gio Gonzalez

Miggy is the best player in baseball in my opinion. He would go # 1 or # 2 in 99.9 % of all drafts. No way I trade him .

With almost anyone other than Miggy this would be a consideration. But with the best player in the game, I think you need to hold on to him and let him eat up your 1st round pick. It will be well worth it!!
