Help! Keeper League Vetoed Trade- WHIR

Postby thebearproooffsuit » Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:16 am

Please help resolve this dispute: I will evaluate a trade in response.

Just traded: (2014 salary)

Curtis Granderson ($11)
Oscar Taveras ($2)

for

Adrian Beltre ($39)
Chris Sale ($22)

I will not keep either player at this price although Sale probably has a few dollars of value at that price.

14 team- deep bench, 1 minor league roster spot, 4 keeper max

Inflation is 10% a year, minimum of $1 inflation.

After three years the player can no longer be named a keeper and returned to the draft pool.

The league is convinced that the unfair, and is citing the fact Granderson and Taveras might not even have been keepers on my team because I was out of keeper spots as evidence that this was a trade dump and that I gave up little of value to get Beltre and Sale. In my mind the only thing that matters is the players' absolute long term-value , not wether or not I would have been able to capitalize on their keeper value.

Beltre is getting up there in years and can help you down the stretch at minimal investment. Its trading now vs future. You did give up a good young OF in Tavares and a big time power OF in Grand who is a reasonable price. It has be allowed. I wouldn't veto that.

Chris Sale ($22) has some value here.

Whether or not Granderson/Taveras would have been keepers on your team makes absolutely no difference. That means nothing to me. Are they going to be keepers on the new owners team? Are they better options then that team had before? That is all that matters. Seems like your league mates are just jealous.

Yeah both players will be keepers for him...so the trade helps him.

Then there is no way this should be vetoed.

Thanks for the feedback on my question...

As for this trade, I don't see how it can be vetoed. Not sure what your total budget is, but Beltre & Sale at $61 combined is likely taking up a good chunk of it. Obviously Beltre is the superior player, but is he really three times better than an $11 Granderson? And is it even realistic to keep a 35yr old Beltre next year at $43?

No way should this one be vetoed.

Thanks for the feedback.

This trade should not be vetoed. The bar for trades should be whether both teams are trying to improve their situation. In a keeper league, it's often a win now vs. win later type of trade/improvement. whether you intend to keep the players doesn't really that much. Having that option value to do so may be important enough in your mind. More so, nobody knows your intent, so they really should assume positive intent.

I think the underlying issue here is that other owners in contention don't want to see your team getting better, and they are probably envious that they didn't make a similar deal. If you league continues to veto such types of trades, I'd look to find another league to play in.

I'm not really sure how this trade gets vetoed. Taveras is one of the best prospects. Sure your getting the better players for this season, but the other person is clearly trading to try and win in the future.
