What's Beltre Worth? WHIR 100%

Postby Donnie740 » Fri Aug 09, 2013 10:04 pm

Trying to make a late season push and need some power help. With Wright on the DL for another few weeks, I figured Beltre might be a good target. I've been offered the following:

Beltre for Heyward and a 1st rounder

I'd much rather give up Austin Jackson instead of Heyward. And I really don't like the idea of giving up a 1st.

Which is the better offer for Beltre, Heyward and a #3 or Austin Jackson and a #1? Or is that too much for a soon to be 35yr old in a keeper league?

Leave a link and I'll help with your question.

I'd do either. Beltre doesn't seem to be slowing down at all

What does a 1st round pick mean? First after keepers next year so maybe like the 6th round? Are there no keepers so it's first round overall, meaning a top 10 player? More info please!

I would take the offer. If this push gives you a shot at 1st, then the deal is this:
"i know you have a shot at 1st with trade. So I'm giving you what you need now, for a decent player for me later"

You need to know when the person has you.

The first round pick value is decided by: The total number of keepers and what # pick you get. The wild card is the surprise asian player(s) that pop up. If you have 1st pick, and another Darvish or Hyun-Jin Ryu pop up, you just lost an ace.

A 12 team league with 5 keepers for example, means 60 keepers. There are still decent players left, but probably nothing close to Beltre. Which means he's trading for prospects like MLB teams do. Does he have a good 2nd option at 3B? If so, then its certain.

If you keep 7-8 players in a standard league, then 1st Round is near worthless.

Generally though, to get something good, you have to give something good.
I love mock drafts.

it says 12 team 12 keepers so I'm thinking the 1st rounder is like 140th best player barring some special import

Sorry, it's in the signature. 12 teams and 12 keepers with no restrictions. The "first rounder" would essentially be after 144 keepers plus 11 others come off the board (assuming I win first place and pick last in the first round).

The other team has Machado at 3B, so it makes sense for him to move an old veteran like Beltre. He's now offering Beltre and Frank Liriano for Jay Bruce and a #1. I'm thinking of countering with Heyward and a #1 for Beltre and CC Sabathia.

I just hate the idea of giving up a young player like Bruce or Heyward. Realistically though, is Heyward likely to be a perennial 30-30 player? Or is he closer to 25HR and 12SB with a .265AVG?

This ^^^^^

And I can't see why would you deal Bruce for Beltre - kind of defeats the purpose of making a trade. But I'd make a deal for Beltre with either Heyward/Jackson and a 1st (144th) pick.

I agree..Ajax and the pick for Beltre...Beltre retains a lot of value for the next year or two and Ajax is a lower ceiling player than Heyward, so less chance that you're giving up a future stud. 1st round pick in a league with 144 keepers doesn't seem that much to give up to make that huge upgrade.
