BJ Upton vs Austin Jackson WHIR

Postby BravesGuy » Thu Aug 08, 2013 10:19 am

In a standard 5x5, H2H non-keeper league, who would be a better BENCH option for CF? BJ Upton or Austin Jackson?
Need to drop one. BJ has been horrible all year, but since coming off the DL he is showing signs of life with a .476 AVG.

Since it's a bench spot I think BJ might be the way to go (higher upside?)

Thoughts?

Easily Upton. He has 10 hits since he got back in 21 AB, but he's also struck out 7 times. That means his BABIP in the 5 games since he got back is .714 (10-for-14). You can't use things like batting average in such a small sample size. K and BB rates are much, much more valuable data. Jackson has the higher ceiling.

I'd go with the upside of BJ, especially since it's a bench spot. Upton seems to heat up in the 2nd half and you'll want him when he does.

I'd take Jackson every time over BJ Upton. Especially for a bench spot. You'll be spot starting them and Jackson is much more consistent. Especially in that powerhouse Detroit offence.

Feedback on mine would be appreciated:

Really depends on what you need more. Jackson will provide you with runs and probably a better average. Upton is more of a home run threat so if you need help in that category, I would add him.

AJax for sure.
Schafer is back and might eat into Upton's PT over awhile. IDK though (maybe platooning them in CF might be a good idea).

A jax....I've been waiting on Upton all year and he just never looks good or is able to put together even a few games in a row where he's making hard contact. Ton's of K's and IFFBs all year....I'd take a flier on Upton if he's cheap enough, just due to upside but not over Jackson.

Jackson all day long. Upton is a waste of talent. His hot streak came and went in two days . :-t
