Wright for Kemp? WHIR

Postby dcmove2003 » Sun Aug 04, 2013 12:46 pm

I'm in a keeper 6x6 roto league (normal categories + holds + OBP). You can keep guys for 3 seasons before you must release them back to the draft or trade them. You keep your best 3 players each season (there is no "cost" to keeping your best players). David Wright in his final season on my team. Have until Sept 1 to trade him, and now he's hurt which is bad for me. I'm in 2nd place, 8 points out of first. I have maybe a 10% chance of catching 1st place. It's possible but unlikely without some stellar offensive performance the rest of the way in R, RBI, AVG, and OBP. Unlikely to catch first, but definitely want to hang onto 2nd to win some prize $$ (currently 10 points ahead). I want to trade Wright.

My current keepers for next year at this moment would be Stanton, Hanley, and Matt Harvey.

I have a few options:

1) Trade Wright for Kemp/Pat Corbin (not sure if I'd keep Kemp or Harvey, and not sure if Kemp would be any good this year, but an extra SP for this season would be nice given Harvey's pending shutdown).

2) Trade Wright for Ellsbury (again, not sure if I'd keep Ellsbury over Harvey or not, but Ellsbury would be an immediate help this season).

3) Trade Wright/Harvey for Ellsbury/Price/Allen Craig (hate to lose Harvey for next year, but definitely helps my pitching this year since Harvey will be shutdown early, and gives me an extra bat this year too in Craig. While this trade helps both teams--me this year and the other guy for next year, it could be vetoed given the purely uneven talent exchange, and i don't want to create a bunch of league uproar.

4) Wright for Braun is no longer an option as the owner says he will keep Braun for next year.

What would you do?

My team:
C: Jason Castro
1B: A. Gonzalez
2B: Zobrist
3B: Alex Rodriguez
SS: Hanley Ramirez
CI: Josh Donaldson
OF: Marlon Byrd
OF: G. Stanton
OF: Alex Rios
Utility: Tori Hunter
Bench: Jimmy Rollins
Bench: Xander Bogaerts
DL: David Wright
SP: Cain
SP: Harvey
SP: Peavy
SP: Cingrani
SP: Jeff Locke
RP: Balfour
RP: Perkins
RP: K. Jansen
RP: Joel Peralta
RP: Trevor Rosenthal

Ellsbury if you can land him. He's healthy and can really help boost your speed stats in the last 7 weeks or so.

I would take Ellsbury and Kemp for sure.

If you are looking towards next year I'd go with Kemp/Corbin. If you want immediate help then I'd go for Ellsbury/Corbin.

Since you are unlikely to catch 1st place I think it comes down to who is the better option as a keeper for next year. I'd personally rather have Kemp over everyone mentioned in your post because of his upside and the lineup the Dodgers have which possibly could get better if they decide to spend even more money.

I like Kemp and Ellsbury. If you're in danger in dropping out of 2nd, I'd go with Ellsbury. But if you've got a decent lead, I'd take Kemp for next year.

i agree with the guy above. the only way i would take ellsbury over kemp is if its all about this year. if its not, id take the original trade of kemp and corbin for wright in a heartbeat. wright tends to slow down in the second half every year. kemp justhas to put his injury problems behind him and he has more productive years ahead of him than wright does. and you get corbin? take it

I'd go Ellsbury/Corbin in a second. Who knows what you're going to get out of Kemp, either this year or next?

I would go after Ryan Braun, if possible. If you can keep him for three years, he should outperform Wright/Kemp/Ellsbury. If you are debating Kemp vs. Ellsbury, I would go with the guy who can help you more now (Ells). I don't think I'd place either of those two guys into your best three keepers category. I'd keep all three of Harvey, Hanley, and Stanton over Kemp or Ellsbury.
