the more i think about it, the more i like a year-and-a-half suspension*
it basically ends his career
cuts the yanks' a bit of slack
but still forces them to deal with a lot of that crappy contract
seems like a win-win-win

*assuming the merits of the suspension are justified and not just some witch hunt

Updating other PED threads: latest possibilities?

I picked up rajai Davis yesterday to mitigate the possibility of losing Evereth Cabrera to suspension. That worked out nicely today.

From rotoworld, Nelson Cruz and Jhonny Peralta will accept suspensions. (Referencing tweets by Bob Nightengale and Ken Rosenthal, resp.) Not a surprise in Peralta's case, somewhat surprising for Cruz.

Ken Rosenthal has a pretty full list on his twitter feed. Accepting 50-game suspensions are Cruz, Peralta, Bastardo, Valdespin, Everth Cabrera. "Also suspended" (accepting the suspension?) are Cervelli, Montero, Puello, Escalona, De Los Santos, Martinez, Norberto. Not facing any new discipline are Colon, Grandal, Melky. No violations found for Gio and Danny Valencia.

I don't think anything official has come out, yet, but ESPN already has players listed as "Suspended".

I would assume this is why he's appealing. He knows he's almost done and will definitely be done by the time 2015 rolls around. At least this way he can collect a check.

he's getting paid after his suspension is done with
i don't know his contract specifics. is he making more in a couple years?
i think he just wants to play now instead of later
or maybe he's just wanting to stick it to bud

Why wouldnt he be able to collect a check? The team cannot force him to retire. They dont have to keep him around, but they do have to pay him whenever his suspension ends.
And Arod does not strike me as the type of player who would leave 100mil on the table just so he can go out quietly and (for him) gracefully.

If he's suspended he won't get paid. If he appeals he will still get paid. His contract decreases significantly moving forward. He's getting paid 28M this season. 25M next season. 21M in 2015 and then 20M in 2016 and 2017. The longer he delays the process and can get his suspension reduced the more money he makes now and the less he doesn't get paid if he can can get banned. He'll lose 8.64 M this season if he was suspended without pay for 50 games. Next season those same 50 games are worth 7.7M. Meaning he'd make almost an additional 1M dollars by appealing and trying to play this season.

And there you go. Even if he still serves 211 games, he just earned himself another almost 1M by just filing an appeal and earning his 28M salary in it's entirety this season.
