Braun Dynasty Deal WHIR

Postby germani40 » Wed Jul 24, 2013 10:52 am

Trade offered to me

I get
Braun $21.59 owned through 2016 season

I Give
Beltran $7.26 owned through 2016 season

I am in first by a wide margin but this trade would be to the guy in 2nd. If I deal Beltran my outfield and utility spots wont be that good. Some kind of combination of Shuck/Schafer/Heisey.

I also was offered a trade where I would get Carlos Gomez (cant be kept) and trading away Granderson and Ian Kennedy (both owned until the end of the 2014 season)

My lineup
C Mauer
1B Butler
2B Zobrist
3B Pujols
SS Desmond
LF Trout
CF Beltran
RF Pence
UT Shuck/Phegley

IR Granderson
IR Willingham

Lineup if I did both deals

C Mauer
1B Butler
2B Zobrist
3B Pujols
SS Desmond
LF Trout
CF Gomez
RF Pence
UT Shuck/Phegley

IR Willingham
Bench: Braun

I would do both deals. Gomez is a great keeper. Your OF next year would be great. Gomez fixes your lose of Beltran this year.

Should have noted that Gomez cannot be kept after this year so it would just be a rental

What are your potential keeper prices on Grandy and Kennedy? I'm assuming these are out of a $260 annual budget?

For a $179 budget Granderson is $30.01 and Kennedy is $25.86. I wanted to make sure I got them both this offseason so the prices are obviously higher than they should be.

...and Braun is $21.59 per year (not escalating) through 2016? Man I'm a big win-now guy but it would be hard turning that first deal down. Is this points league or roto (wondering since if you did both you'd end up a bit SB heavy)?

If its a points league and (depending on your scoring) it seems to make sense I think I'd definitely do it. Doesn't seem to hurt you this year and sets you up pretty for the future. If it's roto I guess it would depend on how you're set up in SBs and BA. If you don't need SBs but need BA then this trade would hurt you this year. You'd hate to lose in a year you were in a good lead in first due to trading for the future. I might still think about it, but that would make me pause. I might see what I could get for Gomez from another manager before hitting accept. Maybe even a Markakis type would be better for your team if you need the ave but not the SBs.

Its a points league. TB walks hbp RBI and SB are all worth .25 nothing for runs scored.

Can you look up how many points Gomez was worth in 2012? How many points has Beltran been worth this season? I'd look at comparing them on a per at-bat basis (345 AB so far for Beltran, 415 AB in 2013 for Gomez).

If they're relatively close I'd definitely do both deals.

If there's some huge margin (meaning Beltran=stud in this format) then you might want to think about how much Beltran will help 2nd place and how much the difference in keeper value between a $21.59 Braun and a $7.26 Beltran really is.

Beltran
Points = 61.8
Points per game = 0.70
Points per plate appearance 0.170

Gomez
Points = 69.5
Points per game = 0.74
Points per plate appearance 0.187
