Garza Dealt to Rangers for Edwards, Olt, Grimm, and PTBNL

Postby Snakes Gould » Mon Jul 22, 2013 10:26 pm

Rangers acquired RHP Matt Garza from the Cubs in exchange for INF Mike Olt, RHPs Justin Grimm and RHP C.J. Edwards and 1-2 players to be named later.

Seems to be a huge price for a middle of the rotation guy, albeit, one of the best on the market.

Mike Olt has been terrible this year, he's striking out once or twice a game and not hitting for much power. Apparently he had a vision problem at the start of the year but he's still striking out the same amount, and his stock dropped a lot. I don't think it's a crazy price.

A year ago this would've seemed like a huge haul prior to olt's disappointing 2013 campaign and eye troubles. Now it seems Edwards is the centerpiece here with Oltmbeing the sweetner. I don't think its an outrageous price but if you're Chicago you've gotta feel pretty good about the upside of what you've landed in this deal.

Olt is still a good prospect. And Edwards has a long way to go, but if he keeps progressing, he could be a top 50 prospect by the time he reaches the big leagues.
