Hamels hasn't pitched elite, but he's also gotten unlucky. I feel like buying him low would be a good idea. However, Hunter looks like the steady R/RBI/BA hitter that helps solidify an offense and Masterson has upped his SwStr% enough that I think his increased K/9 may not regress that
much. While I do see the potential for Hamels to perform like that elite guy again, I think the most likely case is that both pitchers give you mid-3's ERA from here out with Hamels giving you a bit better WHIP and them giving you simile k/9 (or maybe Masterson even giving you a bit better).
So while I wouldn't mind buying low and while I'd still rather have Hamels than Masterson due to the upside, I don't think the Hunter+Masterson is buying low enough. Unless Hunter is a complete bench player on your team right now (in which case it's probably okay to eat a bit of value since your getting the theoretically best player in the trade). Otherwise I might explore a slightly lesser hitter than Hunter or maybe see if the guy can toss in a lower-tier hitter or pitcher to make up the value difference.Help w/ mine?
