Would appreciate OF insight

Postby Louth70 » Sat Jun 29, 2013 10:28 am

I have a strong team, but I am having a problem deciding on who to start in the OF and UTIL.

I have 3 no brainers to start in the OF:

Nelson Cruz
Adam Jones
Jay Bruce

For the remaining OF and UTIL slot I have the following:

Desmond Jennings
Shane Victorino
Alex Gordon
Nate Schierholtz
Zach Cozart
Starlin Castro

I have been starting Jennings and Victorino, but not sure if that is the best option of these. I figure Castro is out. He has sucked pretty much all season.

I appreciate any insight that is offered.

It's dependent on your roster, the league scoring, and your current standing so any advice given is going to be based on an assessment of who is the better overall player; that might not mean it is the best player for your lineup. Not a fan of Castro, sure he has a .281 BABIP but he's also striking out more often than I do at a co-ed bar. As for Cozart, he sucks and Schierholtz is not better than Gordon, Jennings, or Victorino. Based upon your "starting Jennings and Victorino" I assume you need stolen bases but I think that inserting both of them in the lineup at the expense of Alex Gordon is foolish. He's been hot and should be moved into the 3-hole soon (although, Royals...) where he's a .369 hitter. He's going to contribute to your team and I think that ultimately he should start over Jennings. I say start Victorino at the other spot if only because I think going forward he's a better bet than Jennings. He's at the top of a potent Red Sox lineup, has the same amount of steals as Jennings, and he hits in Fenway Park. But if you prefer Jennings over Victorino that's fine because value is (to an extent) subjective.

If you have a moment I also need some advice and would appreciate your help: viewtopic.php?t=463013

I would start Jennings and Gordon. Gordon I would definitely start. Depending on who has the hot bat, I would pick Jennings or Victorino for the Util spot.
