Trade Trout for plethora of players? Need help.

Postby Watermock » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:41 pm

Dumb to accept, or dumb not to accept? That's the question with this one.

I'm currently in first place, but have been scuffling recently. I am power deficient thanks in part to losing Harper and Tulo. Guy in last place has wanted Trout badly ever since beginning of the season. I sent him a deal, and retracted it, and he responded saying he would have accepted it.

I sent this deal.

I send - Trout, Cuddyer, Lucroy, Cozart Moreland and Cashner

I get - Chris Davis, Matt Holliday, Choo, Mauer, Hanram and Cliff Lee

Nearly a team overhaul, and I lose Trout and gain a few options for keepers. We keep 8 in this league. Is trout worth this? Especially if I'm in first right now?

Need help...

My team looks like so -

C-Lucroy
1B-Santana
2B-Carpenter
SS-Tulo/Cozart
3B - Zimmerman
2B/SS - Andrus
1B/3B - Freeman/Moreland
OF - Trout, Harper, Heyward, Werth(less), Fowler, Austin Jackson, Cuddyer, Oscar Taveras (speculative add)

Sp- Harvey, Miller, Cahsner, Samardjzia, Zimmerman, Cobb, Scherzer.

I'd pass, but that's due to me not being able to see a ceiling on Trout. You have Trout and Harper, why break that up?!? I can see you would win the trade this year, but you're in first in a keeper league and your getting older with this trade. Cliff Lee is up there and I believe Holliday is also.

I don't see Hanley hitting for avg as much anymore. And Mauer is a great baseball player....avg fantasy player. Simply not enough xbh or rbis or runs. Cuddy has been dynamite also.

I'm a conservative man...the trade is in the ballpark....but I'd keep Trout.

Ok, breakdown time!

Lee is much better than Cashner, not even close.

Choo/Hanram/Mauer is a major upgrade for Cuddyer/Lucroy/Cozart/Moreland. Cozart has basically no value.

So, Davis/Holliday for Trout? It's not bad. Davis is going to be a good enough keeper, and for this year, you're actually about even there.

Overall, I think this is enough for Trout, although it would be nice to get one more marquee player out of this. If you can't squeeze any more out of him, I'd still make this deal.

Thanks! I may add Cespedes to this list of players I'd ask for. Personally, I have major reservations trading Trout, but this lineup switch would put me over the top. I think if he's willing to accept my offer at the top, then I'll do the trade...otherwise I may pass.

I would probably then look to move Santana Cobb and Matt Carp for a 2b upgrade go hard in for Cano!

Carp? I don't have Carp on my team. The guy who has Cano actually sent me a deal the other day trading my Cano for Trout basically. I wasn't terribly interested in a Trout for Cano swap. One, I like Trout more than Cano, age isn't on Canos side, and does Cano get busted for cheating?

What do you think of the original offer Maddog? I know you're the guru around here. Would that be worth Trout in a keeper? Should I try and include Cespedes as well?
