Cubs suspend Ian Stewart indefinitely without pay

Postby Izenhart » Tue Jun 11, 2013 6:21 pm

I don't see many headlines like this one but it doesn't shock me it involves emotional outbursts on twitter.

http://mlb.si.com/2013/06/11/ian-stewar ... rade-cubs/

From Rotoworld:
Ian Stewart has been suspended indefinitely without pay.
Stewart went on a Twitter rant Monday night, questioning why the Cubs hadn't called him up yet from Triple-A Iowa

From The Chicago Tribune:
“We spent the entire morning dealing with an issue that doesn’t help us get better as an organization,” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said. “That’s not how we want to spend our time. What he did was really unprofessional and there are going to be consequences. Beyond that, I’m not going to comment.”

The Cubs suspended Milton Bradley for negative comments he made to the Daily Herald in September of 2009.

Stewart tweeted an apology Tuesday, saying, "I just want to apologize to the entire Cubs organization for my comments on twitter."

After going 1-for-3 with an RBI double Monday night at Triple-A Iowa, Stewart vented his frustration on Twitter, blaming Cubs manager Dale Sveum for his status and saying the organization is letting him “rot” and “might as well release me.”

Stewart’s late-night Twitter rant began when a fan tweeted him and asked if there was “any word when you’re heading back to Chicago.” Stewart replied: “Probably never.”

Stewart is hitting .164 at Iowa with a .279 on-base percentage, four home runs and 19 RBIs in 110 at-bats.

From a Cubs Fan:
Why can't Carlos Marmol make tweets like these?

I could definitely understand his frustration with being in the minors, IF he was producing and had good number. but his numbers SUCK!
he has 4 HR on the season, and 3 of them came recently in 1 game.
he simply does not deserve to be in the majors right now, and I don't think any team out there would give him an opportunity at the major league level right away even if he was released.

i heard about this this morning, and went and read his feed, and didn't think it was that horrible. Once the union gets involved, Id be surprised if he doesn't end up getting his money, and eventually released.

That was probably just a typo.

I saw this the other day at rotoworld.
Ian Stewart went 3-for-4 with three homers and eight RBI in the first half of a doubleheader Saturday at Triple-A Iowa.
Stewart got the party started with a three-run blast to right-center in the second inning. He then launched a two-run homer to virtually the same spot in the fourth inning. After striking out in the sixth, he broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run bomb the opposite way in the eighth. It was a massive afternoon, but the third baseman was batting just .146/.259/.250 with one homer and 10 RBI through 35 games heading into play on Saturday and is not close to returning to the Cubs' active roster.

the first part made me wonder what type of season he was having. I'm in a really deep 16 team league so even players from the minors that could come up could be good options for a pick up. then I read the rest and was surprised he was so bad.

nobodies whining. Im simply saying that the dude never hit 3 Hr's.

you on the other hand are a grade A Instigator. your track record is as such. i could easily pull up 100 posts highlighting your doucheness, but this is about as much energy as i plan on wasting on you.

have a great day.

I hear the Dodgers are interested.

the 3 homerun nonsense really isnt that funny anymore.

back to the point, teams can pretty much do whatever they want to players with regard to suspension. its up to the players union to fight those actions and defend the player
but Stewart is not fantasy relevant even in the deepest of leagues so who cares either way.
