5/24-5/27 Cheering, Venting, & Memorial Day Weekend

Postby bigh0rt » Fri May 24, 2013 5:46 pm

.: Prologue :.
This is where we typically remember everyone as they enjoy a full slate of baseball action and BBQs and the long weekend to remember why they're able to do such things, and not forget about those who have fought for them to have those rights and privileges (I tried three different spellings of that word until I finally quit and let Google do it for me). So, don't forget. You live in a pretty good place. A place people gave their lives for and continue to give their lives for so that we can suck down Doritos Locos Tacos and 120 oz. colas. 'Merica. ;-D

Like this weekend, and my trousers, this thread may end up... extra long... and probably disappointing...

.: Around the MLB & the Cafe :.
First there was Fernandez, then we had Cingrani, and then nobody really seemed to care about Odorizzi (what a difference a year makes, eh?). The Cafe's new boy toy crush is Kevin Gausman, who is able to ramp it up to 98 mph on the radar gun. He lasted 5.0 innings in his MLB debut, allowing 7 Hits, 2 Walks, and 4 Earned Runs, striking out a batter per inning, and taking the Loss (something Matthew Edward Harvey has still yet to do in 2013 - weird). The guy's obviously electric with his heater, but his secondary offerings remain to be truly analyzed; same as Cingrani before him. In all likelihood, he'll need some polishing before he's ready to mow down major league hitters with regularity.

"We're going to use everybody." Is there a more stinging sentence that a manager can speak when you are the owner of the "closer" for that particular team? Check out this week's Bottom of the 9th Column, discussing the words of Mike Redmond, speculation on Chad Qualls, and others. Always a good read.

The second most underwhelming recent call-up has been that of Jurickson Profar, who has started his 2013 season 1-for-5 with 2 RBI, and one game where he was benched for the terrifying bat of Leury Garcia, who I've never heard of before hearing that he would be splitting time with Jurickson Profar.

Does Brett Lawrie just suck? I don't have a link for this, but I think he just sucks. Like isn't as good at baseball as was previously anticipated. Like the month he played in 2011 might be the best baseball he'll ever play, and he's otherwise just going to be a squid who I keep drafting. Seriously, how is nothing about him in the Blue Jays FAIL Thread? This guy can't hit. Guy is not a good Major League Baseball player. Period. He sucks. Way to crush that .595 OPS bro. Elite talent. Welcome to my Waiver Wire, doofus.

Moving on from 3Bs who suck to 3Bs who may actually not suck... Is Eric Chavez for real? Dude is experiencing a rejuvenation of momentous proportions in Arizona. Just mashing the dog turds out of RHP. How good? 1.014 OPS I just creamed my jeans good. Guy is 35 years old and apparently whatever he found in the NYY locker room last season when he was rending A-Rod's spot he took with him into the desert. Major vsRHP platoon all season? Waiver Wire fodder by Father's Day? What say ye about the former A's 3B phenom?

Back on the topic of guys who suck, though. Jesus Montero was just optioned to AAA. Did I mention I also drafted this putz? And the other loser who was sent to AAA to try and remove all the suck is Josh Rutledge, who I wanted to draft, but missed out on -- so I used my #2 Waiver Priority on him two weeks ago! Who did I drop for him? Francisco Liriano, who has scored 46 points in his 2 subsequent starts. Since that date, Rutledge has scored...7.5 pts... apparently I just stink at this game...

Even if they were all thrown at once he could probably hit them all for HR.

I think I'll buy Cabrera for $60+ next year.

Hoping for another Masterson gem tonight in a blow out win with a bomb from Kipnis.

Keeping an eye on Nolin against the O's. If he can shut them down, we might have something here.

No worries. He isn't getting any more hits. He just got thrown out of the game. :-b
