Any informed info on Jaime Garcia?

Postby ramble2 » Mon May 20, 2013 5:41 pm

He's been put on the DL, and Yahoo's little note mentions the Dread Dr. James Andrews is being visited. Andrews is like the Dread Pirate Roberts; ultimately a good guy, I'm sure, but not someone you want to see on the horizon.

I'd be shocked if he isn't done. He needed surgery in the offseason, put it off hoping physical therapy would get him through it, but it didn't. Pain is worse than last year when he needed surgery to begin with.

The educated guess is that he is going to be out for a long period of time. Same pain as last, but he admitted its much worse now.

I'm waiting on the official news before I drop him though.

Looks like it's shoulder surgery for Garcia. Too bad. He was a solid back-end SP for a fantasy rotation.

From Rotoworld

Jaime Garcia was diagnosed with a 30-40 percent tear of the labrum in his left shoulder.
Dr. James Andrews recommended the surgery and reportedly expressed amazement that Garcia pitched as well as he did under the circumstances. The Cardinals' team doctor will perform the surgery and we'll likely have a better idea about a timeline once the procedure is complete. But it's safe to say that the Cardinals aren't counting on anything from him the rest of the way in 2013. May 22 - 12:52 PM

They are crediting CBSSports.com with breaking the story. 30-40% tear in his labrum; expected to be out the rest of the year. I've put in a waiver request for Kevin Gausman to replace him in the rotation.

Local media is saying the surgery will be Friday. Definitely done for this year.

Talk on 101.1 is that Gast is going to be in the rotation for the time being, basically as long as he can last and be reasonable successful.

Lyons is only supposed to start tonight and go back to the minors. Westbrooks should be good to go for the next start. Gast is going to have some competition to keep the job. I'm curious if Martinez goes to AAA to stretch out his arm.

Westbrook came up lame during his bullpen session yesterday. I'm guessing that means another start for Lyons.
