Cingrani for Starling Marte?

Postby KHowe » Wed May 08, 2013 11:18 am

14 team roto league, 5x5, re-draft. I need offensive help, I'm last in runs, HR, average, and SB. Pitching has been my strength.

I've been offered Starling Marte for my Tony Cingrani. What do you guys think?

Only problem is, I'll have to drop one of my OFers (Span?) when Stanton gets back.

C - Posey
1B - K. Moralaes
2B - B. Phillips
3B - K. Seager
SS - A. Cabrera
2B/SS - JJ Hardy
1B/3B - P. Alvarez
OF - A. De Aza
OF - D. Span
OF - M. Ozuna
Util - R. Zimmerman
Bench - G. Stanton (Injured, no DL spots)
DL - M. Teixiera

Pitching:

J. Zimmerman
M. Latos
L. Lynn
J. Hammel
T. Cingriani
T. Lincecum
R. Halladay
M. Rivera
S. Cishek
E. Mujica

Bench - K. Fukikawa (Injured, no DL spot)

Marte is ranked #3 currently in yahoo fantasy baseball just behind Miggy and Harvey and the Reds haven't guaranteed that they will keep Cingrani up after Cueto returns to the rotation which should be soon(2-3 weeks). If it isn't a keeper league I'd probably go with the trade if it is then thats a hard one to decide.

Thanks for the help. It's a re-draft league, non-keeper. I'll help you out.

I think there are several reasons I'd take this trade. Marte is a great OF and will be a great player to hold onto regardless of if it's a keeper league or not. He's batting a bit out of his mind so far (I'm a Bucco fan, so trust me when I say he's getting on base way too often) but even when that comes down, he's a great OF and lead off man who provides you with speed and power. Like I said, regression is probable, as he can't get on almost half the time he leads off an inning...so even if he gets on 30% of his lead-off at-bats, that's a great chance Cutch will be able to drive him in at some point.

Cingrani is a great young pitcher, but he hasn't gone through an adjustment period yet and the near future is a bit shady for him once Cueto comes back. I'd take the deal and try to ship Stanton for a bit lower than what he's actually worth, which will solve your OF problems.
