Trading Cliff Lee (WHIR as always)

Postby aerrico » Tue May 07, 2013 5:22 pm

I am in a 6x6, 10 team, redraft roto league with standard categories plus OPS and Holds as the additional two categories. My team is doing very well so far this season, but I currently have a surplus of pitching as I was able to land a couple of cheap studs in the draft (such as Peavy and Iwakuma) and work the wire for some nice guys as well (Cingrani, Maholm, Ryu). In addition to that, I have Cliff Lee and Greinke (DL) and am looking to trade Cliff Lee for a bat. I have made a thread or two earlier this year asking about deals with Lee included, but they have fallen through. Here is my roster in this league: I would be willing to deal Cliff Lee straight up or deal Cliff Lee and a bat to get a better bat. I think I would slightly prefer trading 2 for 1 in this scenario because it will then open up an empty roster spot to pick up another reliever or have an additional stream spot down the line. I plan on dropping A Ramirez for C Granderson when he comes back, but feel I need one more bat to improve my offense for the rest of the season and feel confident in my ability to stream and stay active looking for quality arms.

Which bats should I be targeting?

Current Roster:
C V Martinez
1B P Goldschmidt
2B B Zobrist
3B M Cabrera
SS J Rutledge
MI Dee Gordon
CI A Gonzalez
OF A Jones
OF J Bautista
OF A Pagan
OF N Swisher
UTIL N Arenado
UTIL J Ruggiano
UTIL Alexi Ramirez
BE A Hill
DL C Granderson

P C Lee
P J Peavy
P H Iwakuma
P T Cingrani
P P Maholm
P H Ryu
P STREAM SPOT
RP A Chapman
RP J Henderson
RP D Hernandez
RP J Benoit
RP L Gregerson

who is your 3B?

I would target the guys who haven't started hitting yet but should. Heyward, Bruce. Craig and Freeman could be good targets as well.

I would trade Zobrist, his name usually seems to carry more weight than what its worth.

I would look to try and improve your middle infield. Maybe try offering Zobrist and Lee for Cano/Tulo if you can pull that off. Or try Lee and Rutledge for a Kinsler/Pedroia type player. Or try and buy low on a player like Bruce or Heyward.

Please help me out - viewtopic.php?t=460233

Zobrist and Lee for Cano would be awesome. Alternately, you could try to do Lee for Crawford + if u want more speed. Or pagan and Lee for McCutchen (maybe a reach but perhaps swisher and lee). U get the idea.

Thanks. I like the idea of using one of my UTIL outfielders like Pagan or Swisher with Lee to nab a better outfielder. I think that could definitely work.

I'm not a big fan of trading Zobrist because I really like his positional flexibility, and it's already helped me tremendously with Aaron Hill going down early. I'm going to try to go after one of the outfielders near the back end of the top ten with Lee and Swisher and see if that will work. Thanks for the input and I will update here if anything else interesting comes up.

Keep any ideas coming in fellas.

Thoughts on offering Cliff Lee and Nick Swisher for Adrian Beltre?

I would still have 5 outfielders once Granderson comes back next week.
