Veto a trade for Injured Halladay?

Postby Trooper » Tue May 07, 2013 2:39 pm

Hey all,

So I commish a 12-team H2H on Yahoo, and have it set to Commissioner veto--my policy is that unless collusion or something of the sort is involved, I won't veto your trade, even if it seems a bit lopsided.

I got a message today from one of the league members. He has Melky, and apparently last week he offered him to the last place team for Halladay. Now, Halladay has just hit the DL and could potentially be out for a while, and the team he offered the deal to has accepted the trade after the fact. He wants me to veto it on the grounds that Halladay is hurt now. I'm not sure. On one hand, I sympathize, but on the other hand I suppose one could argue that he should have pulled the offer back once Halladay got hurt? But then again, I don't know the exact timing of the acceptance, and he can't be expected to keep up to date on other teams' players every single day...
For now, I've told him to contact the other owner and try to work it out, and that I'll have an answer for him soon.

What do you all think? Should I veto this or let it pass? Thanks!

I would let it pass. It's not like melky is doing anything either. Besides, I know that any time I have trades out (which is alot bc I'm an addict lol) I KNOW what's goin on with those players. And he had plenty of time to cancel after it was announced he was hurt much less going on the DL. Just my opinion...

It has to pass

Basically for the reasons said above, but just to re-affirm

1) Melky now off juice is a "whatever" guy that shouldnt cause too much concern
2) The owner who sent could/should have retracted, kind of his fault for leaving it out there hanging

Halladay MAY be fine, I personally don't think so but maybe

Thanks all so far. I should also add that this was accepted yesterday morning--is that enough time for the guy to react and cancel it given the timing of Halladay's DL placement?

If I remember correctly, he has been feeling pain since the end of April. Yes, there has been plenty of time.

You dont need to see the official DL to know Halladay has had some problems and risk. Plenty of time has elapsed to come to that conclusion :)

The DL stint and having blanks vs rubbish ERA games may be better.

Lets face it guy who wanted Halladay was trying to buy low in hopes he would turn it around, he had to be aware of risks in that attempt.

The trade should stand. It'd been known for a couple days that Halladay was injured and likely headed to the DL; there had been speculation for several weeks that he was hiding something. It's not like he was suddenly injured during a game, which is a situation I'd be more inclined to overturn.

Whether or not you believe in Melky this season is beside the point.
