How do you rank the swing guys?

Postby rjforlife » Tue May 07, 2013 3:41 am

These guys all qualify at least at 1B/OF in Yahoo, and I'm just wondering how you guys rank them for the rest of the season?

Mark Trumbo
Chris Davis
Adrian Gonzalez
Allen Craig
Nick Swisher
Todd Frazier
Michael Cuddyer
Brandon Moss
Matt Carpenter

Trumbo, Davis, Craig, maybe Gonzalez are a tier

Swisher, Cuddyer, Frazier are the next tier

Moss and Carpenter are a 3rd tier and not one that I'm sure are worth owning in shallow leagues.

I like Craig, Gonz, Trumbo, and Davis ahead of the rest of the pack, myself. Craig is my personal favorite, and then A-Gonz, as long as you accept that 20 HR is a lot more likely than 30 HR -- I still love his AVG and RBI and even R potential. Trumbo I like for pure power, and Davis I do as well, but not as much as Trumbo. So there's my Top 4 of the most favorable in that group. After that, I like Cuddyer, I like Carpenter if his skill set provides what you need (OBP, R), I like Frazier as a 3B option who shouldn't hurt you too badly. Moss I don't know a ton about, and Swisher I'm not a huge 5x5 fan of because he doesn't hit for AVG, and I see his R/RBI potential much more limited in Cleveland than it was with the Yankees.

I actually think they improve with his move because he is batting 4th instead of 6th.

And Cleveland seems to have a lot of games scoring bunches of runs. They are a sneaky good offense, and being right in the middle of it could be nice for Swish.

What's the scoop on Brandon Moss? He usually gets benched against lefties but has been great ever since he put on the Oakland uniform.

Moss has been making good of his opportunities thus far, up a lot with RISP on a team currently scoring a lot of runs. He's hitting close to .300 with power while batting cleanup, so things are just clicking for him right now. Not sure if he keeps up his pace, which isn't anything great to be honest, and the BA should probably come down into the .280 range if he continues to be benched against tough lefties. But as long as he's in the middle of the order and getting 450-475 ABs, I think his power is legit and the counting stats will be there. If Oakland decides to take him out of a platoon and play him every day the AVG will drop but he could push 95+ RBI.

Moss is more of a .250 hitter than a .290,I'm not buying that AVG at all.
