Vetoed Trade Discussion

Postby BigZ38 » Sun May 05, 2013 11:31 pm

Details: 12 team H2H Keeper, 7x7, Batting: R, HR, RBI, SB, K, AVG, OPS Pitching: W, L, SV, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP

Keep 8 yearly. Standard Re-Draft after keeper.

Team 1 giving up - Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria
Team 2 giving up - Alex Rios, Lance Berkman, Brandon Crawford

We don't have set rules for vetoes, simply just a league vote (takes 6 teams to veto). Trade was vetoed within 24 hours. Trade was proposed and accepted again, and vetoed again.

The trade has been passed again however this time it looks like:

Team 1 giving up - Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria
Team 2 giving up - Alex Rios, David Ortiz, Brandon Crawford

As a league we have to protect against competitive balance issues especially considering I yearly replace about 2 owners. I can't understand why Team 1 wants to trade his top 2 players for that package, but regardless, I think it is a horribly unbalanced deal.

Need some outside feedback on the trade/trades.

Don't see an issue with either deal. People are allowed to give up on Josh Hamilton if they think he is done and in same regard others are allowed to buy low. It's not like if Hamilton doesn't get on track no one in the league is going to come back and say "man we shouldn't have vetoed that". And that's just one part of the deal but I dont see any issues its not so unbalanced it needs a veto, I don't even think all things considered it's that unbalanced to be in the conversation. Just IMHO clearly a few folks in your league feel otherwise.

Basically, this is a classic buy low trade. If some owner wants to sell Hamilton for cents on the dollar, you should let him.

The fact that swapping out Ortiz for Berkman was the difference-maker in getting the deal passed says a lot, IMO. Ortiz is red-hot right now, but he's probably only eligible at DH/U in your league and probably does not bring enough value over Berkman to move a trade from "so lopsided it unbalances the league" to legit. It just reeks of owners trying to collectively micromanage the league to preserve their own standing.

I wouldn't commish veto, but probably would "just another owner" veto.
