Big bat for a big arm? Bautista for Verlander?

Postby Millhouse » Sun May 05, 2013 8:58 am

My offense is okay, not great:
C-Rosario
1B- Votto
2B-Y.Betancourt
SS-A.Cabrera
3B- Reynolds
OF-J.Upton, Bautista, Aioki, McLouth,
DH-M. Saunders
IR: Hanley
Minors: Hamilton

But my pitching has been doing well, with rom for improvement (K's, wins):
SP-Darvish, Scherzer, Latos, E.Santana, Cobb, Chacin
RP-Kimbrel, Holland, Henderson, Putz, Valverde, D.Hernandez

Another owner needs a big bat and basically wants Bautista for Verlander.

The offer:
I get - Verlander, Zobrist, Chris Perez
He gets - Bautista, Chacin or Cobb, Jim Henderson

Now, I never like trading bats for arms but if I'm gonna finish top 3 this year (top 3 get $), I think it'll be on the strength of my pitching. And having Verlander, Darvish, Scherzer, Latos, Santana, Chacin/Cobb would be pretty unbeatable and make up for any lack of power in my lineup. So I'd get a massive SP upgrade, an AVG and steals uptick with Zobrist while losing power (and ultimately RBI, even though Zobrist tops Bautista right now), and I'd trade a potentially volatile closer situation for a more secure one (Henderson for Perez).

Thoughts? Lv a link, will help you ASAP. ;-D

On value, I prefer Verlander. I would make it and look to move pitching for offense (maybe 2b, do not count on Yuniesky).

Help with mine:

Well Zobrist will take over at 2B(more than likely)

I would do this then look to move Scherzer or Latos for a OF replacement because you will need to replace the HR's your losing

Definitely take it.

Verlander, Zobrist, Chris Perez upgrade at 2b and SP which you don't even need but that would give you an illegal rotation.

When Betancourt cools off you can dump him move Zobrist to 2b and maybe sign a speed type OF to give your lineup balance.

What is in FA right now just wondering?

FAs as far as OF'ers go (assuming I'd move Zobrist to 2B once Betancourt cools off)? It's pretty slim pickins as far as guys who MIGHT help in 203 categories -- Seth Smith, Denorfia, Duda, the hot-for-now Raburn are probably the top guys remaining. Then you get down to 1-category guys like Rajai Davis, Bourjos, Bonifacio, Revere, Pollack, Schafer (your speed type guys)...or rookie flyers like Marcell Ozuna.
