Who are you giving up on?

Postby mkultra » Fri May 03, 2013 2:59 pm

It's May, and some hot/cold starts are turning into full-season outlooks. Who are the under-performers on your squad you're thinking of dropping, or have already given up on?

Guys I'm looking at on my team (12-team H2H):
Melky Cabrera
Josh Reddick

Cut bait or come back from the ledge?

Don't give up on Rickie Weeks unless it's a very very shallow league.

Rickie Weeks is coming around now anyway.

I'm not really giving up on Weeks yet, he's just a jerk. He's firmly planted on the bench though. Been riding the hot hand of Raburn for now.

Neil Walker is under-rated every year. He's not a superstar but he's firmly above replacement level in any league I can imagine playing in. I almost always get him dirt cheap (on multiple teams for about 3 seasons now) and have him sit in my MI slot all year with a .275+ average and decent counting stats (80 R+RBI and 20-25 HR+SB per 160 games). In shallow leagues where you need upside or superstars in every slot, he's a poor fit, but when the best guys on waivers are Jordany Valdespin and Chris Getz, I'll gladly take Neil Walker. He doesn't have a ton of power or speed so when he's only hitting .250 or .260 it seems like he's not doing anything, but at the end of the year the stats will be there.

I haven't really given up on anybody yet. Mike Fiers I guess, for obvious reasons. Took him for $1 hoping I could get some use out of him but that dream died quickly. Same with Mitchell Boggs before he did irreparable harm to my ratios.

Dropped Melky for McLouth a week-plus ago. Happy I did. The 'roided up Melky was good; the non-'roided-up Melky blows.

Not dropping, obviously, but looking to move Jose Bautista. 7 HRs are okay, but he looks pretty lost.

Getting a little worried about Aioki. Was hoping for .300+ and nice steals. Was pretty hot to start the season, ice cold lately.

Ran out of patience with both Bonifacio and Revere a little while ago. Can't steal if you can't get on base.

Also dumped Moustakas for Mark Reynolds about halfway through April. A little early -- I'm not a knee-jerk guy, esp. in April -- but Reynolds looked good right off the bat, and Moustakas looked clueless out of the gates, so I bit the bullet. Happy there, too.

Only guy I might regret dropping is Ogando. But that was a tough choice: him or Ervin Santana, and Santana just looked/looks pretty dominant right now while Ogando has been just okay.

Finally, I replaced Adam Eaton on my IR with Chacin...Chacin was looking good til he got hurt, and the Rockies are looking strong, could be some nice wins there.
