Herges v. Kolb

Postby Guest » Tue Apr 06, 2004 12:49 pm

if your team needs a few quick saves and both Matt Herges and Kolb are avialable on the WW, who'd you pick up?

also is there any possibility that Kolb is gonna last the whole season as the Brewers closer? or is Luis Vizcaino gonna come back and get the closing job?

Wait...if we're talking quick saves, then Herges, because he's on a better team. Kolb should have the job for the entire season, if he's healthy. Injuries have been his problem, but he has good stuff. Herges does too, but Nen will probably be back at some point this season.

better team does not equal more save opportunities...Milwaukee had the most save ops last year

Is this the most common misconception of fantasy baseball?

take Kolb, more likely to hold his job

I think its probably the top misconception among baseball fans in general. Until you see the statistical evidence it seems logical that better teams produce more opportunites.

I'd grab them both if you can. If not Kolb is the safer pick although my gut feeling is Nen won't last long.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

If you can only get 1 player, pickup Kolb because unless he goes down with an injury, he's got the job for the season. Not to mention, he has some good stuff. Herges is a good temporarily solution but he can be forced to giveup his job to Nen whenever he's ready to comeback.
