Title says it all. When I was a wee lad, the ballots got passed out at the games by late May or Early June IIRC. you had a little punch-card or could write in the name of of someone in a box below. Now 20 years ago, pre-internet I might be able to understand needing some time to tabulate the votes. Nowadays, with the vast majority of votes done on the internet in seconds...it could be more last moment than ever.
How on Earth am I supposed to vote on players after just 20 games played. Anything can happen. Right now the leading vote getter should be Jupton but who is to say he doesn't go into some ridiculous slump in May? In races that are close, fans are just going to select whoever is the more well-recognized name, which is completely against the point of a midsummer all star game. Plus, the All Star game now matters in a very direct way, by selecting the host for the World Series. That gets determined by whoever has the best 20 days in April?
