I'm worried about Pujols' injury, so I'm actively shopping. I'm talking to a guy in my league who said he's "open to anything".
I want to propose this trade. Fair? Terrible?
I give: Albert Pujols and Daniel Murphy He gives: Paul Goldschmidt, Jason Kipnis and Matt Carpenter.
I'm thinking this is the time to buy extremely low on Kipnis, and sell high on Murphy. FantasySP Trade analyzer has this a fair deal (Pujols side slightly better, but that's due to Kipnis being terrible right now). Should I add one more player to sweeten the pot, like a Michael Morse?
10 team H2H. 5x5. OPS and WHIP.
C - Salvador Perez / Evan Gattis 1B - Albert Pujols 2B - Josh Rutledge 3B - Adrian Beltre SS - Ian Desmond OF - Justin Upton OF - Desmond Jennings OF - Nelson Cruz UT - Daniel Murphy
BN - Michael Bourn (DL) BN - Michael Morse BN - Brandon Crawford BN - Jason Heyward (DL)
SP - Yu Darvish SP - Anibal Sanchez SP - Gio Gonzalez SP - Lance Lynn SP - Jose Fernandez SP - Shelby Miller RP - Joe Nathan RP - Kenley Jansen RP - Ernesto Frieri RP - Jose Valverde
Despite the foot issues, I think you are selling Pujols a bit short in this deal. You aren't really buying low on Kipnis, you are paying for pre-season Kipnis. I love Goldschmidt, so keep him in there, but either add a guy from your side and upgrade Matt Carpenter, or drop Carpenter/Kipnis from the deal and add in one much better player.
Interesting. I do need a 2B; I like Rutledge a ton, but I'm not sure he'll keep it up over the course of the season. Having Kipnis is a necessity almost, for depth and "who knows".
Say I'd drop Carpenter and/OR Kipnis, who would you want back from his team, and for a package similar to what I'm proposing (I can spare outfielders. Willing to trade Heyward too, if he wants to take him off my DL).
Could you go Pujols/Heyward/D. Murphy and get back Goldy/Kipnis/Kemp?
I would try that and see what happens, it's not likely to be accepted but there is a chance, and when you shoot a little high with that opening offer, when he comes down with a counter you may get something you really like.
It's definitely passable. You're trading two struggling stars in Pujols for Kemp, an injured guy who's value is still just around Goldy's value, and Murphy who's hot for Kipnis who has been borderline droppable. It's clearly a better deal for you but not veto material.
I'm taking it one step further, but not that far. I'm adding Jose Fernandez (other guy needs K's and SP in general), and asking for Carpenter.
Total deal: Pujols/Heyward/Fernandez/Murphy for Goldschmidt/Kemp/Carpenter/Kipnis. I have to drop Brandon Crawford to make room for Heyward's DL activation. My defense will be that Pujols by name value is roughly worth Goldschmidt + current Kipnis, Kemp = Heyward (they really do, looking at last year's stats), Carpenter = Murphy (more or less, I just like Carpenter's 3B eligibility), so I'm dunking in Fernandez (who I'm about to drop anyway) to sweeten the deal. Sounds fair?
