2013 Top 50 Countdown

Postby rjforlife » Mon Apr 22, 2013 2:00 pm

The time is upon us gentleman, for the 2013 Top 50 Countdown. To participate, all you need to do is create a list of the top 50 players for fantasy baseball. The basic idea is that you would trade your 8th ranked guy to get your 7th ranked guy, or your 42nd ranked guy to get your 41st ranked guy, it's that simple. All I do is take submissions from as many lists as possible, compile the lists into one composite list, then tweak it as I see fit. Last season, we did include injured players in the countdown, just keep their length of injury and post-injury value in mind when ranking them. Hitters/Starters/Closers can all be included. For a quick look at how it turned out last year, here is the last list we made:

So if you have the time and the desire, send me a list of your top 50 players by Friday night/Saturday morning, and you'll receive credit and thanks from all. You can go beyond 50 if you like, and any comments you'd like to make on individual players or the whole list are actually quite helpful. Thanks to everyone for your lists and I hope this returns as a huge success.

We've got three lists going now, but there are a lot of differences, so if we could get a list or two more that would really help solidify the countdown. Thanks guys.

What's the plan for this weekend? Are we going to do the bi-weekly thing, or space it out more?

I'd say lets make it every three weeks, we can use the extra weeks to stir up interest and get more lists in.

As always fellas, thanks for the hard work. it's much appreciated--i just with it generated more discussion/debate.

In the next Countdown I expect to see a few things...

Jordan Zimmerman should be ranked right around Wainwright, Lee and Price in the early/mid 30's. The fact that he's not even ranked right now seems a bit crazy, but after realizing that Harvey and MadBum are the final two SP's ranked, it becomes clear that this board is very offense heavy. I think a better mix of stud pitchers and offensive players might be a good idea. I don't think I could talk myself into taking Zimmerman over MadBum, but in a redraft I might consider him over Harvey given some of the questions that remain. In any case, I'd take all three of them over several offensive higher ranked offensive players.

Anthony Rizzo will be a top 40 player. I'd probably put him conservatively between Bruce and Butler in the late 30's, but wouldn't argue if others had him ranked him as high as 30th right around Encarnacion and Hamilton.

Segura will be ranked in the early 20's along with fellow MI's Pedroia and Kinsler. I would actually argue that he belongs even higher than those two, and is a borderline top 20 player given the crap we have to work with at SS this season. 2B is far deeper.

Lastly, Paul Goldschmidt will be in the top 10 sandwiched between Fielder and Votto, and I really don't care what order they are in.

Maybe these are all things that I think should happen. Not necessarily things that will happen.

FYI, I'd be interested in taking part in the next set of rankings if you fellas need some more entries.
