Sell High on J-Up?

Postby fantasyjoker » Wed Apr 17, 2013 10:03 am

12 Team H2H points league. We start 3OF. My OF is pretty solid, but my pitching is killing me. I am consistently getting negative points from pitchers while my opponents are getting 15-30 from their winners. Should I move J-Up while he's hot for a stud pitcher? OR stand pat and just keep picking up streamers and hope to get lucky? I feel like its going to be hard to get wins when my pitchers are bringing me down.

My OF eligibles
M. Trout, J. Upton, BJ Upton, Tori Hunter
N. Swisher, A. Craig

Pitchers
Dickey, Gallardo, Halladay, Griffin, Beckett, E. Santana

Complete Roster - H2H Points league (12 team) - Start 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, Util, 5 SP, 2 RP
1B: Craig, Howard, Swisher
2B: Phillips, Rutledge
3B: Wright
SS: Lowrie, Ramirez
C: Gattis, Suzuki
OF: Trout, J Upton, BJ Upton, Hunter

SP: Dickey, Gallardo, Halladay, Griffin, Beckett, E. Santana
RP: Reed, League

I wouldn't. This is what most J Up owners have been waiting for. I would keep him and enjoy the ride. Try moving BJ or even Hunter instead. Hunter is hot and could bring you a nice return. Keep Upton. ;-D

I don't think you can win a deal getting an SP for Upton.

I'd sooner see you try to flip Hunter or Swisher for a decent arm while your guys rebound.

Thanks guys. This is my first year of fantasy baseball. Been playing fantasy football for 15+ years and the guys finally talked me into trying baseball. Still trying to learn the ins and outs of it and some patience to go along with it.

Clearly I failed in the draft at getting good pitching. I didn't understand why guys were taking SP so early and often, and now I am paying the price. Hopefully a couple guys come around, but guys sending out feelers for J-up and Trout got me thinking and then I found this place while looking for info. :)

Would trying to move Lowrie to the Reyes owner for a pitcher be a wise move? Or would that hurt too much?

You'll get managers offering you quanity as in 2-1 or 3-1 deals. Keep your studs. Unless you get a stud back. Look at who has the better player in the offer. I had one guy offer me his whole team in my AL only for Trout. problem was he only had four keepers and they were all high priced players. He threw three of them back in the draft pool. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Howard/Hunter/Gallardo or Halladay for 2 quality arms like a package of Medlen and MadBum. Gallardo was arrested for DUI FYI.
Just stream if you can't trade.

Unless you get a completely ridiculous offer I wouldn't move J-Up. A trade like that would violate 2 rules of thumb when it comes to fantasy baseball. Don't be on the one side for 2+ for 1 trades and don't give up a good bat for pitching. Not saying there is no situation where I wouldn't move J-Up for pitching, but the odds of you getting an offer that would be anywhere close to sufficient are low imo.

This, don't be dumb. He is up there in the top 5 players in baseball. The same 80 power that Stanton has, with plate discipline (he has had it since his minor years), plus the ability to hit for .280+ average. You don't trade players like J Upton.
