I dont think a 14th round pick on a former Cy Young award winner that still gets over a K per inning is considered a foolish move. You are better off stashing him and selling him high after a couple good starts if you truly dont believe in him.

His last couple of outings were basically situations where he had one bad inning (albeit really bad) early on, and then settled down for the remainder. After a limited spring training, I think it's worth benching him for a couple starts to see if he can turn it around.

That was his story for almost all of last year. One awful inning each start and it seems he's continuing with that trend.

That's true for pitchers in general...how often do you see a pitcher cruising and then running into a tough inning? it's like saying..if not for that 5 for 50 slump, that hitter would have had a good batting average. Streaks are the downfall of many a pitcher.

12 walks and 3 HRs allowed in 16 innings is just horrible...his ERA should probably be even worse. I'd make him ride the pine to see if he can improve and if no improvement was made by the end of May I'd dump him to clear some roster room.

The only time you ever "ride out" a pitcher is when he has good support stats but bad results. That's not the case with Lincecum.
