What to do about Lincecum?

Postby theplatypus » Tue Apr 16, 2013 10:11 am

I truly believed that Lincecum would turn it around in 2013 and drafted him in the 14th. As it stands this is looking like a truly foolish move. Is it better to wait it out and hope he turns it around or drop him for some waiver wire fodder? Here are the top 20 or so SP available.

Cahill
Detwieler
Westbrook
Mcdonald
Chen
Porchello
Capuano
Wood
Happ
Buerhle
Jimenez
Bedard
Dubront
Villanueva
Arroyo
Strailly
Stults
Slowey
Lannan
Gee
Saunders

After my experience yesterday I can assure you that you definitely want to stay away from Erik Bedard.

I grabbed him for a spot start a week back and thought about grabbing him yesterday as well. #dodgedabullet

Trevor Cahill should be owned.

You keep him and wait a few more weeks. He missed most of spring training and he has looked better in every start so far this season. Wait a couple more weeks and then make a decision. If you have to make a move for one of those guys I go for Detweiler or maybe Cahill if you just need spot starts, Cahill is not a start every time guy though.

Yeah, don't drop him yet. Hell you may even be able to trade him if he happens to turn in a couple of solid outings against weaker teams.

I also like Villanueva, Dubront and Chen from that list. You'll want to hold them back against the tougher offenses though but should turn in solid numbers aside from that.

I used pick #134 on him in one league with some cafe mates, and got him with pick #107 in another league (keeper league so values get inflated). I figured he was a good risk/reward guy, but he has been truly terrible. I'm benching him where I can unless it's late in the week and I don't care about ratio blow ups (in HTH) and I'd advocate benching him in roto. That's about all you can do at this point. Hopefully you drafted him knowing he could potentially be terrible and if so you ride him out to see if he turns it around. Otherwise no reason to draft a risk/reward guy if you're going to drop him after a couple bad weeks.

Oh I would definitely bench him against most teams. I started him against the Cubs since they are awful and it almost paid off if they hadn't blown the lead. I'd start him against other really weak offenses but sit him against like 2/3rds of the league.

I definitely would not drop him at this point. His last couple of outings were basically situations where he had one bad inning (albeit really bad) early on, and then settled down for the remainder. After a limited spring training, I think it's worth benching him for a couple starts to see if he can turn it around.

I drafted him 110 in an 8 team league and the walks are kinda scary. I have no intention of dropping him just yet as we have large rosters, but I may skip his next start or two depending on who it is.
