I have the 2nd pick in a 12 team mixed points league (cbs)..it's a standard "snake" draft. I know the #1 will take Arod and I'm sure this question has been asked before. Who would you recommend taking at the #2: Randy or Vlad?
I'm leaning towards Randy because of scarcity of Elite Pitchers and I can get OF later, but Vlad is supposed to have a monster year.
Any thoughts, recommendations on how to draft in a points league?

I'd pick Vlad. Either way, you know what you're getting, and it's a hell of a nice pakage. Randy's in his contract year, and Vlad plays some games in a sandbox.
Randy would be less risky than Vlad according to what's happened in the spring so far.

I'd go with Unit. The guy is a monster. Vlad still plays for the Expos, who happen to be terrible.
Would you rather have Unit and someone like Giles or vlad and someone like Morris? Unit has the potential to be top 3 in every pitching category, and he's consistently done that for years. You can't say that about any other pitcher. Pedro is still an injury risk. Schilling faltered at the end of last season, so he has a slight question mark next to him. After that, the drop off is steep.

And yet, Vlad helps significantly in five categories and Unit helps in four.
*shrug*
Pick one. I can pretty much guarantee that your final standings this year will not be determined by which one of these awesome players you take. What you do later in the draft is far more important.

Yup. Anyone can make the first few picks. It's the timing and the players of the later picks that bring about a champion.

i would take vlad in a heartbeat over unit. i consistently win or finish near the top of all my leagues and i never take pitching early. go with bats and pick up guys like miller, morris later. and keep in mind, every year there are usually 10 guys who aren't even talked about in the spring who come from nowhere and win 12-15 games.
