From what we have seen and know, Fernandez is the easy call. I wouldn't be shocked if you asked again in 3 years and it was cingrani you'd rather have.

I'm giving it a go. If he gets shelled, he gets shelled. But I'll roll the dice and see what happens.

Am I the only guy that's seen this guy pitch? It's not a matter of if, but when he gets murdered. If he's lucky Cueto will come back and he can escape to the minors to work on his other pitches.
Once people stop laying of that high heater he's got nothing.

I've seen him pitch, and I disagree with this assessment.

+1 ;-D He misses a lot of bats (17 k in 12 innings) and keeps batters off balance. Moreover, I bet he lasts more innings than Leake did against Washington.

People seem to be very concerned with his lack of plus secondary pitches, but people seem to forget that secondary pitches are not determiners of success, they are simply additional tools to help keep hitters off balance.

For example, Tom glavine is a hall of fame pitcher. He had nothing more than a high 80's fastball, a low 80's change, and a marginal slider. On tools alone he is meh at best. But he was smart and clever. He kept hitters off balance by mixing up speeds and locations.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that tony cingranni is Tom glavine or anything like that. I'm just illustrating the fact the art of deception can be every bit as effective of a tool as raw stuff. And, based on cingranni's minor league and now major league k/9, he pretty advanced in his ability to keep hitters off balance.

I'll get to watch him today. Still not sure whether or not I want to watch him pitch while being a starter on my roster or warming the bench lol.
