I admit, this league is not for casual fans who bought a $7 fantasy baseball magazine at the corner store.
It's intricate and requires people to develop and execute realistic baseball strategies for building a team that can beat another team in a game of baseball.
This is not about collecting a handful of selected stats that are treated as equal even though they are anything but equal on a real baseball field, (home runs, stolen bases, saves and strikeouts, for example).
This is not about team-influenced stats like runs scored, wins and holds.
This league is about building a team using many of the real-life MLB rules and procedures. This league is about building a team that can generate runs on offense and limit runs while on the mound.
Can you navigate a free agency bidding war, getting the right players for the right price?
Can you nail the perfect time to draft a prospect onto a long-term contract?
Can you execute an effective 6-game week's worth of innings pitched using your own mixture of starters and different types of relievers?
Can you use MLB rules to your team's advantage by utilizing a D.L. and minor league system?
Do you agree that a walk, a single, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly all amount to generating 1/4 of a run?
Do you agree that giving up a homer is worse than giving up a walk, and a walk is worse than giving up a ball batted into play?
These are the kinds of things that this league needs a replacement owner for. Forget the 5X5 mentality if you hope to succeed in a runs created/runs allowed kind of league like this.
If you like the idea of running a more realistic baseball operation rather than participating in a baseball-themed novelty contest, then we may have a place for you.
It won't be super-easy. It'll take some commitment, thought and planning. But it just might be the most entertaining baseball pool you'll ever be in.

A team’s weekly score is put head-to-head against all other teams in the league, every week.
Weekly match-ups run Monday to Sunday with certain match-ups getting extended (start and end of season, etc.)
Six teams make the playoffs, which take place over the last 3 weeks of the season.
Each team controls a 25-man roster, (expands to 40-man on September 1st), and can have up to an additional 16 players in the minors and up to an additional 14 players on the DL.
Active slots must have a player in them every day, though you can put a player who has the day off in an active slot.
There is one active slot for each fielding position, 1 for a DH, and you can have 1 to 16 pitchers active per day.
Minor league eligibility
Teams can have up to 16 players on the minors roster.
These players don’t count toward the salary cap.
Players qualify for minors if they are not on an MLB roster in real life, or if they started the current season with less than 131 career AB or 51 career IP.
If you put a player in the minors during a time when they are eligible, you are allowed to keep them there as long as you wish… even if they no longer qualify in real life.
While players are on the real-life DL, they qualify to be put on your team’s DL. Once they’re on your DL, you can keep them there as long as you like, even if they come off the real-life DL.
DL players don’t count toward the salary cap.
Teams can have up to 14 players on the DL.
Players already on the DL cannot be claimed on waivers or as free agents.
If a player plays at least 1 inning at a position during this season or last, then he qualifies for that position on your roster.
Playing time minimums/maximums
For every head-to-head match-up period;
- Teams can bat to a maximum of 162 outs.
- Teams must pitch a minimum of 54 innings.
On the day a limit is reached, all stats will continue to count for the rest of the day.
Batting and pitching limits are separate from each other.
Teams that do not meet the minimum IP for the week will receive a total team score of zero, or 1 point less than the lowest scoring team that week, whichever is less.
Pitching minimums are to be met each week. Owners who do not meet their weekly minimum are expected to e-mail the commish with an explanation.
Failure to do so three times is three strikes and you’re out. Teams that have paid the luxury tax, (explained later), are exempt from this rule.
Keepers need to be marked 20 days before opening day.
Teams have the option to keep players still under contract or drop them without penalty.
Players who have finished their contracts cannot be marked as keepers.
Players may not be dropped from May 29th-June 3rd.
On June 1st all available players will be put on waivers and have their salaries reset to the minimum.
On June 3rd, the waiver process will act like a draft of available players.
Players who are claimed during this once-a-year process get the player on a contract that lasts the rest of the year plus 6 more.
Draft order is the standings on June 3rd in a last-to-first order every round.
Released players go through waivers.
Waivers last 2 days.
During the offseason, waiver claims can be made with preference given to the team lowest in the previous year’s standings.
During the season, waiver claims can be made with preference given to the team lowest in the current standings.
Players claimed on waivers continue on with their listed contract value and length.
Dropped players who pass through waivers become free agents.
Free agents are eligible to be bid on and won daily, with the exception of the first free agent period of the year, (following the keeper deadline), which allows owners 5 days to form their bidding plans.
The highest bidder at 3am each day wins the player with the tiebreaker favouring the lower team in the standings.
The winning bid becomes that player’s salary and the contract lasts for that season plus the next.
If the winning bid is processed on or after September 1st, the contract only lasts until the end of that year.
A player who doesn’t get bid on by anyone continues on as a free agent the next day.
Teams are only allowed to spend up to an amount equal to the current standard cap limit per year on winning free agent bids, (called the “Free Agent Acquisition Budget”).
Waiver claims and trades don’t affect this Free Agent Acquisition Budget.
There is no penalty for releasing a player before the end of his contract.
Salaries and the cap
The standard team salary cap is equal (in millions), to the current MLB season’s salary cap, ($178 for 2013).
Minimum player salary is equal, (in millions), to the current MLB season’s minimum salary, ($0.49 for 2013), and goes up in increments of 1 cent.
Owners have the option of paying $20 in real money to have an extra $20 in cap space.
Owners can pay the $20 at any point during the year and once they do, money stays in the prize pool even if the team doesn’t always use the extra cap space.
Salary cap space will only be increased after the commissioner receives the payment.
All the money collected becomes the prize for the league champion.
This prize is awarded whether the champ paid into it or not.
