Haha Scummers, I loved my draft until Granderson/Teixeira/Ortiz all went down before our draft was even over then were placed on the late DL after the free agents were picked over then the league set up forced me to go 3 players short for the 1st week then leaving me to pick up the likes of Lind/Smoak/FraGu as replacements for this week. Hahahha my team just sucks right now but it's early. :-b

The same thing happened to me in the NOOBS league. Lost Grandy, Tex, Jeter and Freese before the season started. I also have Giancarlo and Halladay, but am in 2nd by some miracle. Had 3 holes in my lineup for the first week also because the Yanks didnt DL their guys in time for my week one deadline.

This is like my cafeholic noobs league last year. I waited and got 3 closers w/o overpaying and all 3 underwent TJ by opening day. My starters were a little weak but 200 innings of great ratios would have helped a lot. I didn't finish last so at least there was that.

I look at my N00bs league last year and I'm baffled how I finished 3rd.

ARod in the 4th
Wilson in the 6th
Howard in the 7th

Lilly, Quentin, Suzuki (C), Furcal, Venable, Niemann, Huff, Lilly.

I had Minor and dropped him after the bad start. My final roster was seriously 90% FA. I never noticed that till this thread came up, makes me feel better about my teams this year~.

I'm in 5 leagues and I drafted for a friend's keeper league (from FBC).

League 1 - standard 5x5 Roto Draft - 5th/12 - feeling icky. Have RA Dickey and Cain who got rocked last week. But made up for some of their damage with Estrada, Samardizjia, Mike Minor and Clay Bucholtz.

I have Bucholtz in 3 leagues. I didn't want to do it. But he just went so deep, with his great spring and great 2nd half last year... I gave him a "what the hey" attempt.

Picked up Jim henderson. Was worried my Saves would suck because I only drafted one closer.

League 2 - "the Big one" Office pool. Biggest prize money and most bragging rights.

Auction league 6x6 (OPS, QS) -

Luckily finished 9-2-1 for week 1 while my opponent had Jupton+ MiddleBrooks and out homered me like 15-9. Luckily my pitching held up nicely and I won in Avg and OPS due to a sky high OBP.

Have Jose bautista, Giancarlo Stanton + Matt Holliday. Thought I overdid it on pure power and these guys combine for just 3 Hrs. Think my 1 dollar Jeam Segura purchase may pay off.

League 3 - 12 team H2h with expanded rosters.

Was doing great due to the strength of my pitching...Verlander ..Bailey, Estrada..Mike Minor... was killing it on pitching, then Cain made that last disastrous start and I blew Era/Whip and finished the week 7-5. Which isn't too bad.

2 Leagues - drafted on Sunday so did not count.

For my friend - I bought for him Yaddy, Carl Crawford, Lohse, jaime garcia. Crazy auction keeper leeague ..Prince Fielder went for $75..the avg budget was 150..not 260.

Finished first week with 10-0 win. Chris Davis at U, Rosario C, Ellsbury carried my hitting. Harvey, Iwakuma and Strasburg carried my pitching early. Had some help from my opponent also. Got lucky

Some were mistakes, some were gambles that didn't pay off, some were just guys that got hurt etc. That is why fantasy baseball is like poker, you can't get too caught up in results it is all about proper thought process. If I avoid someone for a good reason but they have a good year it doesn't make it a mistake.

That draft is also a slow online draft that started before I had even looked at fantasy baseball so it was one I was less than prepared for.

This year my hitting is doing ok in all 3 roto leagues and all 3 have me in the bottom for pitching and they are mostly established starters just having awful starts. I just hope it doesn't get so bad that it costs me for the full season.

Deep Dynasty (20 teams) - 2nd
Killer Crossover Keeper (13) - 2nd
Cold Stove (12) - 2nd
Brushback (14) - 3rd
Masters (15) - 4th
1st YR Dynasty with a bunch of Matt Buser followers (12) - 4th

Interestingly, in most of my leagues, where other managers took time to post their views of the draft, my teams were typically unfavorably rated. Common theme was that I reached on a # of players. Indeed, this season, I admit I abandoned my old method of drafting: targeting value and my breakout picks. Instead, I focused solely on guys on my want list.

Reason being, after last season, I felt I was too drawn by other people's rankings. Too many quote/unquote experts nowadays and a number of them seem to just collectively agree on projections. Needless to say, I wasn't happy with a number of my league finishes, so this year, if things go wrong, I'll only need to get angry at one guy. ;-)
