Votto FOR Kipnis and Zimmermann (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Mon Apr 08, 2013 9:02 am

Deep 15 team Auction Keeper League, (Fantasy Points) we keep 12 players annually Roster peramters are huge, Players have 3 year contracts then become free agents.

We start the following weekly:
2 - Catchers/ 2-1B/ 2-2B/ 2-SS/ 2-3B/ 1-DH/ 5-OF/ 8-pitchers

we had our auction prior to the start of the league, and I spent way to much on Joey Votto, and got myself stuck in a pickle later in the draft and missed out on any 2B, due to not enough cash left in the auction I was out bid on everyone. Same goes for my pitching.

I GET:
2B - J.Kipnis $14 (2) (has another keeper year left at that value, and is easily a top 5 2B, that is on the rise, could be a top 3 guy by 2014
SP - J.Zimmmermann $24 (1) (not bad of a salary for a tier #2 guy, which I desperately need in my rotation.
????? (another asset)

I TRADE:
1B - J.Votto $49 (1) (STUD, tough to part with but I think it gives more balance to my team. As I can move Craig to 1B, where I should of had him all along, and spent my money elsewhere in the auction)
2B - C.Getz $2 (1) (really could careless about this guy)
P - E.Frieri $1 (1)

Sure Votto (is the big name here) should get more back in a standard league trade, but you have to think about the salary structure here, and he isn't a keeper at that value. I am getting potentially 2 keepers back in Kipnis and Zimmermann. Kipnis for sure @ $14 is a keeper at a weak position. PLUS strengthens me @ 2B and SP, where I need it bad.

MY CURRENT STARTING ROSTER: (guys in bold were my keepers)
C - Y.Molina $11 (3)
C - AJ.Ellis $2 (1)
1B - E.Hosmer $8 (3)
1B - A.Craig $5 (2)
2B - C.Getz $2 (1)
2B - A.Amarista $1 (1)
SS - B.Crawford $3 (1)
SS - C.Barmes $1 (1)
3B - C.Headley $9 (2)
3B - C.Johnson $1 (1)
OF - A.McCutchen $30 (2)
OF - M.Trout $9 (2)
OF - J.Upton $25 (3)
OF/1B - A.Craig $5 (2)

OF - V.Wells $1 (1)
DH - V.Martinez $8 (2)
P - C.Hamels $40 (1)
P - K.Medlen $1 (2)
P - T.Hudson $8 (1)
P - AJ.Burnett $3 (2)
P - A.Sanchez $18 (1)
P - T.Hanson $9 (1)
P - J.Hanrahan $1 (3)
P - E.Frieri $1 (1)

BENCH: (6 man)
C - D.Norris $4 (1)
2B - J.Weeks $5 (1) (in the minors I await return)
OF - N.McLouth $5 (1) (would like to make room for him, by moving Craig to 1B, and trading Votto big asset)
P - K.Herrera $3 (1)
P - M.Fiers $7 (1) (in the minors I await return)
EMPTY ROSTER SPOT
EMPTY ROSTER SPOT

MINORS: (max 3)
SS - B.Hamilton $3 (1) (love for him to get called up this season and play him over Barmes)
OF - O.Taveras $18 (1) (another reason to free up some money by unloading Votto cause this kid should be in the show this season)
P - Z.Wheeler $12 (1) (ditto from above, he will be up in 2 months)

DL:
SS - J.Reyes $25 (3)
P - B.Beachy $1 (1) (hopping for a return this season, or great keeper for next year)

I do that deal, and I turf Fiers, not Frieri. Kudos to working both names into the deal.

Not having to start Amarista is a boon. You have a decent amount of 1B post deal.

I hate to say it, but another go at a deal like this with $40 Hamels might be worth your while, too.

I wouldn't. Votto's value is way too high

I would tend to agree with the side that says keep Votto. It just seems like you'd be watering down your team a little bit. That said, I like Zimmerman and Kipnis and it's close.

I just think it balances out my team more, and gives me a keeper for 2014, if my season goes down the drain, My 2B position is a huge BLACK HOLE.

Plus salary plays a factor as we have an active roster cap @ $305, and when Wheeler and Taveras get the call, I won't have any flexibility with my roster. Sure based on name alone, Votto should fetch a bigger return but you have to factor in the salary cause this is an AUCTION LEAGUE.

Anyone one else Please help me out here.

It's early, don't panic yet. I think I would wait a bit. Yes I like Votto and Kipnis but you have a bit of time before pulling the trigger on a big trade. Hold off for now.

Thanks for helping with mine!

I would keep Votto as well. Don't give up a tier 1 for a few tier 2s/3s.

Bump?

I understand on player alone this doesn't look great, but you have to see the salaries involved I ain't keeping Votto at $49 have an internal replacement in Craig that I can move from my OF slot to 1B.

Salaries play an important role in auction leagues.

I have two black holes and its 2B and Pitching, this is probably my best bet at solving it with one fellow trade. we both matchup well.

Plus the two guys I am getting are keeper worthy in Kipnis$14 and Zimmermann$24 solid tier#2 starter.

Thoughts?
