Beltran for Howard

Postby 1bad28101 » Fri Apr 05, 2013 7:00 pm

I was just offered a trade today. I would get Ryan Howard for Beltran.

What I have already.

1B eligible: Adrian Gonzalez, Chris Davis, Michael Young
OF eligible: Starting Chris Davis, Tori Hunter, Beltran. On bench Carlos Quentin

I could possibly start Howard and move Gonzalez to an outfield position. Or does anyone see any of these players that has a high stock now that I could possibly upgrade?

I appreciate all replies.

I'd rather have Beltran than Howard, especially since you have a top 5 1b in A-Gonz.

Keep Beltran. You don't need a 1B.

Though I think Howard+AGoz in OF is better IMO.

I'd say take Howard if you wouldnt have to sacrifice keeping Gonzo and Davis in your lineup. The reason i say this is Beltran is at a high-risk for injury. He's getting old. He hasnt even been announced to be hurt this year and hes already sitting games. Sell him high. Besides, Beltran came out to a fantastic 1st half last year only to vanish in the second half. Sure Howard was hurt all of last year but hes back now. And his injury was pretty bizarre. A lefty power threat in Citizens Bank Park is highly coveted with that 330 foul pole down the right field line.

Both players are old. Both players can be injured quite easily. The biggest difference between the two is that Beltran will hit for a MUCH better average.

What does the waiver wire look like? Is this like a 12-14 team league? Because some players (like Young, Hunter, even Quentin sort of) should not be owned in a 10 team league.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

This is a 12 team yahoo league. The reason I was questioning the trade is I already have plenty of depth in 1st base. Ant has some great points though also.

If I trade beltran I can keep Howard on bench until he gets hot. I just picked up Werth off waivers. So my outfield could be minus Beltran but add Werth plus when Howard gets hot putting agonz in the of or util.
