Should I do this Votto trade?

Postby CRedsLarkin11 » Thu Apr 04, 2013 5:41 pm

I was just offered his Joey Votto and Jarrod Parker for my Freddie Freeman, Jordan Zimmermann, and Jeff Samardzija. Is this a no brainer? It's a keeper league, we add $5 a year. Freeman could still be kept for $20 next year. The others aren't great keeper value. My pitching takes a big hit and was a weakness anyway. h2h points league. I need help b/c I'm a Reds fan and probably overvalue Votto

My team:
C-Mauer
1B-Freeman
2B-Pedroia
3B-Miggy Cabrera
SS-Rollins
OF-Choo
Pence
De Aza
Bruce
MI- Altuve
CI-Goldschmidt
UT- Moustakas
P-CJ Wilson
Niese
Zimmermann
Hudson
Samardzija
Ogando
Wilhelmsen
Chapman

Bench:
Werth
Aoki
Markakis

Estrada
Pineda (DL)
Garza (DL)
Cahill
Perkins

I understand the dilemma

I think you are giving up a SP too much

To me Votto could be got for FF and 1 plus arm, not 2

Interesting trade proposal...I think the numbers are really important on this. Could you give me more info about keeper dollars? In an absolute vacuum, I take Votto...but I would like to know more about the dollar amounts.

Let's see if I can explain this... 27 roster spots, we can keep up to 6 players. We just add $5 to last year's amount we attained the player for(whether auction drafted or waiver money bids) We have a $310 budget at the draft. Any help is appreciated. I countered with Freeman and any one of my pitchers (except Chapman, he's a $5 keeper). He declined but I am still thinking about the original offer.

I think what the poster above was interested in was exactly how much it will cost to keep Votto, Parker, Zimmermann, and Samardzija, not a detailed breakdown of yearly inflation. The only player you posted a price on was Freeman. To know if this deal makes sense or not the keeper costs of the others is important too.

Exactly. Like if it's going to cost 100 dollars to keep Votto, but only 50 combined to keep the three you're getting back, then I might want to deal Votto. I'm just making numbers up. That's where you come in--you can tell me the exact numbers! :-)

Sorry, Votto could be kept for $45 next year and Parker for $15. Freeman is $20, Zimmermann= $22, Samardzija= $17

I personally would not do the trade. You are giving up too much pitching in the deal I personally think. With the pitching and not getting a huge projected stat jump from Freeman to Votto besides in average I don't like the deal.

When comparing Votto to Freeman on ESPN's projected 2013 stats the players are basically the same until you get the batting average where Votto has 40 point lead over Freeman. Maybe you want that average but I don't feel like paying that type of a price just for the jump in average.

Also on the keeper front not sure if I would keep Votto at $45, but maybe worth it since your budget is higher than what I see normally, at $310. But again comparing prices I like the price of Freeman at $20 next year more than Votto at $45 and use the money saved to invest in another good batter or pitcher.

Hmm...I don't know if I do that trade. I didn't even notice how relatively thin your pitching is...so giving up essentially your two best pitchers to upgrade a position you don't really need an upgrade in would be inadvisable.

Thanks guys. I've yet to have a positive response from multiple sources so I declined. Just couldn't take the hit to my staff
