I kinda think this is a fantasy non-issue. So he is only going to start 4-5 games... isn't that pretty close to normal for a catcher anyway? I don't think its a significant hit to his fantasy value, if anything he will be able to put more focus on hitting. It was pretty clear in game 1 that catching the knuckle ball and the pass balls was in his head and distracting from batting.

It was a bad idea all around. I think JPA tried to force the issue and the Jays gave him a chance thinking ahead to playoff possibilities and not wanting JPA's bat on the bench in important games. Clearly with the options Jays have in Blanco & Thole this wont last long if its not over already.

Yeah it has more to do with Dickey's fantasy value than JPA's. Dickey no es happy.

No big deal for Arencibia's playing time. He was going to sit every fifth day or so, anyway.

Would it be true that the only reason JP was catching Dickey was that it was opening day? I think that he would have caught Dickey very little this season regardless of how terrible he was opening day.

I watched the linked gifs and he is just stabbing at the ball instead of trying to block the ball. It's like Roger Dorn in Major League.

ESPN the magazine did a story about JPA working out with Dickey extensively and fully expecting to catch Dickey this season. Seems hard to believe when watching that.

Seems that way. I doubt we'll see JP behind the dish for Dickey very often, unless Blanco is completely terrible. Although Thole would probably get the call in that case. They probably just wanted JP catching for the big home opener unveiling of the team.
