You know, there's a chance that JPA gets into a platoon role by the All Star break.

Had dickey going for me in my $$$ league....JPA just lost himself 100-120 at bats for the rest of the season. Those in AL only leagues who have JPA might wanna get a back up catcher like molina to fill in for JPA when dickey is on the hill...That was intensley painful to watch...Shame on gibbons for starting that catcher, regardless of opening day or not, it's not like his "bat' is that important anyway...If JPA had too be in opening day lineup then they should have went with morrow for the home start.....My little rant...but I am 3 out of 4 in wins so far, so I can forgive this one.... :-)

The fact that they have Thole, Dickeys personal catcher from the Mets down in AAA is just plain odd.

JPA also Ked twice and did not look good at the plate.
This is the town that dubbed Edwin E5 and when they finally took him out of the field he exploded.
Methinks that with so many options JP is on a short leash as Dickey's catcher.

Knobler tweeted that a scout was heard last night saying. " well at least he got leather on that pitch......it hit him in the shoe".

I don't understand the Thole thing either. I thought they got him in the deal so there would be less of a transition. He should be out there every 5 th day with Dickey

Yep. When Thole came over in the trade, I thought he was specifically included so as to be Dickey's personal catcher until others got familiar with him... :-S

They don't even need to make a roster move to bring up Thole. The backup is Henry Blanco who is maybe Dickey's favourite catcher. HE said that Blanco was the only catcher who ever looked “natural” catching his knuckleball

ESPN had an article a few weeks ago about JPA working out a lot during the offseason so he was ready to catch Dickey. It included tidbits like the fact that he worked out without a cup to increase the pressure to perform. So things could have been worse for him! ;-)

I'm sure JP is trying really hard to be a good catcher. Just like he's trying really hard to get on base more than 30% of the time. Effort is great, but results matter. He should not be catching Dickey. Not only is he terrible at it, but his framing is also terrible and that causes a lot of calls to be balls rather than strikes. For a knuckler, I assume this is magnified.
