He set the single-game franchise record for passed balls in the third inning, I believe, and has since added to it (4). Also got the benefit of a few wild pitches that were probably his fault.

Just awful. Couldn't even get down to try and block a ball.

Ouch.

Despite great analysis I sometimes wonder whether or not you enjoy baseball. It was a possible perfect game and he was only at 110 pitches. I also liked his reaction.

He was at 107 pitches going into the 9th in the 1st game he has pitched all year with a 7 run lead. There is no real reason to send him out there from a team standpoint. I don't put much value into things like no hitters, I mean Juan Nieves and Phillip Humber have them so it isn't like a sign of an elite pitcher, it is just some flukey thing that happens usually against a bad lineup. I would manage a game the exact same as if he had given up 4 hits and they were up 7 to 0 and he had 107 pitches, which would be to take him out.

Damn, was really hoping Yu would get the perfecto. His stuff was straight nasty. Very glad I was able to get him for an 18th round pick and make him a keeper before the season. I think he's in for a big year.

And then you would have about a million Texas Rangers fans from all around the world aiming angry tweets at you. Sometimes playing for the fan is more important than playing for the future. This is one of those things that happens maybe once a year in MLB where someone has a perfecto in the 9th. You just don't pull a guy when its happening. It's like an unwritten rule. You just don't do it.

Angry tweets from fans versus risking diminished effectiveness of your ace for an entire season, less than a year after your previous ace was lost for 12+ months due to being jerked around by management. Tough call.

The fans are going to react to anything you do no matter what. If Darvish has a couple bad games his next couple starts the fans will be saying how dumb it was to leave him to try to get the no hitter. I wouldn't be worrying that much about the fans, I'd be worried about winning games. Win the division and the fans won't care.

I mean Ron Washington is an absolutely awful in game manager and the fans were fine with him while they were going to the World Series every year~.
