Looking for draft advice...

Postby Placenshow » Sat Mar 30, 2013 9:04 am

14 team league, H2H, non-keeper, snake draft, 13x13 (see categories below).

With our league settings, do you think it favors hitters over pitchers or is it a pretty even. I have the 12th pick in our upcoming draft and looking for advice on who I should draft in the first two rounds...hitter/hitter or hitter/pitcher....any advice is appreciated.

OFFENSE
Runs (R), Hits (H), Doubles (2B), Triples (3B), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Caught Stealing (CS), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base + Slugging Percentage (OPS)

PITCHING
Wins (W), Losses (L), Complete Games (CG), Shutouts (SHO), Saves (SV), Home Runs (HR), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Nine Innings (K/9), Quality Starts (QS)

STARTING LINE-UP
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, P, P

Thanks for taking a look.

The scoring categories are so much crap I'd just try and keep a draft strategy simple like, draft high OPS guys who hit 1-4 in the order in good lineups. More at bats = more stats. Guys who don't K are nice targets like Mauer, Aramis, Rollins, Aoki, Melky etc.

For pitching focus less on K's and more on depth and quality. Pitchers who are walk efficient, keep the ball down and pitch for good offenses. You want to be as solid in as many predictable categories as possible, so that's how I would approach it. Keep a pitching deep bench and play matchups. Don't ignore saves or holds, get two guys for each and possibly a 5th RP for H2H matchup balance.

EDIT: but to answer the question of the first two rounds, go hitter hitter. I'd say fill out your offense as fast as possible, maybe target picking 10 hitters in the first 13 rounds or so. After that there will still be quality pitching for the scoring in this league to be drafted.
