12-Team Yahoo 5x5

Postby 4powells » Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:12 pm

This is a $300 25-man roster Dynasty team. I indicated keepers with a (k). Usually I only keep 5-10 players because of the value late in this draft, this year I kept 20 and had $85 to spend on the final 5 spots.

C - Mike Napoli (k) - $8
1B - Ike Davis (k) - $5
2B - Aaron Hill (k) - $5
SS - Ian Desmond (k) - $4
3B - Evan Longoria (k) - $43
OF - Carlos Beltran (k) - $4
OF - Austin Jackson (k) - $6
OF - Shane Victorino (k) - $10
IN - Adam Laroche (k) - $5
UTIL - Shin Soo Choo (k) - $19

P - Cliff Lee (k) - $29
P - Jered Weaver (k) - $25
P - Jon Lester - $16
P - Jeff Samardzija (k) - $5
P - Homer Bailey - $2
P - Jeremy Hellickson - $7
P - Mariano Rivera (k) - $17
P - Fernando Rodney (k) - $5
P - Jim Johnson (k) - $5
p - Jonathan Broxton - $1

Bench - Hunter Pence - $5
Bench - Nick Markakis (k) - $5
Bench - Ryan Doumit (k) - $5
Bench - Jed Lowrie (k) - $5
Bench - Josh Reddick (k) - $5

Total Offense: $134
Total Pitching: $112

In the auction this year I got Hellickson, Lester, Bailey, Pence and Broxton.

I was price enforcing on Pence at $5 and ended up getting stuck with him. Not a bad deal, but I didn't want another OF as my only haul from the auction.

I threw out Broxton figuring he'd get a $2 bid from SOMEONE, but ended up with him. I'll ditch him first chance I have to grab a quality free agent replacement.

This may sound harsh but I kinda hate your team. Your OF's are old and don't see Beltran making through the season. Your whole offense has injury concerns. Ike and Napoli better stay healthy and play to their potential for you to have a shot. Your pitching is the better of the 2 sides IMO. You'll rack up the K's and SV's. I don't mean to sound rude but I think you have your work cut out for you. Good luck.

Please help out on mine. viewtopic.php?t=457275

I'm not a huge fan of this team either. I agree that you're going to need maximized potential from Napoli and Ike to stay competitive. I do like Aaron Hill a lot, and do like a lot of your bench pieces. Your outfield is incredibly weak though, and there just isn't enough power in this lineup to stay competitive. In addition, your whole offense is predicated on Longoria staying healthy just to have a crying chance, which is never good with a player that has struggled to play 135 games in a season, let alone 162.

As far as the pitching goes, you obviously have two really good aces at the top, although I think they're a bit overpriced. It's hard to say what you could have done different, since this league apparently has unlimited keepers, which probably keeps most guys unavailable in the draft. The pitching will probably be fairly competitive, but again I'd have to see other teams in the league to say for sure.

I just don't think the offense is good enough to keep you competitive.

I appreciate the honest responses. In retrospect, I would have not bid on Pence or Lester and I could have thrown a $50 bid at Cargo to solidify my outfield and still walked away with a pitcher like Cahill instead of Lester.

Not a huge fan of this team. Offensively, it seems like you've got some guys who are going to struggle to get on base. Napoli and Davis last year. Came away unimpressed, and probably would go for a better average that what they really bring to the table. Do like Hill, Desmond, Longoria and Jackson. 12 team league so slim pickings I guess. Probably an average team IMO.
