Who do you take at the turn...

Postby RocketsDWM » Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:36 pm

In a series of twelve threads, let's discuss who should be picked where in the first round. Assume standard scoring 12 team H2H re-draft league.

So far we have...

1. Ryan Braun
2. Miguel Cabrera
3. Mike Trout
4. Robinson Cano
5. Matt Kemp
6. Joey Votto
7. Albert Pujols
8. Prince Fielder
9. Carlos Gonzalez
10. Andrew McCutchen
11. Giancarlo Stanton

1) Select a player in the poll
2) Feel free to discuss the pros and cons of these players - this could be helpful for some and generate some good discussion.

I think you gotta go Joey Bats with one, but the other pick could go a few different ways. I could see taking Tulo, Kershaw, or Pedroia there.

I'm getting back on board with Bautista lately, if he can stay healthy I don't see him going less than 100-40-100. Hamilton is another I like a lot and could post similar numbers and no one else on this list should sniff that production. Going Bautista/Hamilton for now.

I'm thinking I would grab 2 of Bautista/Hamilton/Upton. If it were a roto league I would at least consider a top starter with one of my picks.

In a 14 team league with mostly this setup I took Pedrioa and Upton. Really depends on the league though.

Pedrioa is being way underrated this year though because of the slow start last year from the thumb. Won't surprise me even a tiny bit if he is the highest rated MI in the game this year like he was in 2011.

Tulo or Joey Bats. People are going to be disappointed when Hamilton only hits 25 HRs next year.

Had 12th pick just Sunday and went Tulo/Beltre. A bit of position scarcity + hating to draft pitchers early.

I voted Joey Bats and Tulo. I would consider Upton over Bats, that's a close one for me (throw Stanton in that conversation too.) I can see a strong case being made for Pedroia too. I'm definitely taking an MI here though, be it Tulo or Pedroia.

I'm not touching Hamilton this year. I think people are asking for trouble by taking him this early. He was a 3rd round commodity before 2012 for a reason. As currently stands he's not in my top 15 outfielders and I wouldn't start looking at him until the late 3rd at the earliest. Needless to say, he won't be winding up on any of my teams with his current price tag.

well here's my analysis..

In a H2h league pitching is just worth less. Unless the league has some airtight rules to prevent streaming. But they seldom do. So no pitcher.

Justin Upton - I would not take him at his current ADP. But one thing that fascinates me is that in my mock drafts and leagues JUpton is getting no respect. He went for just $26 in my office auction league and I have seen him slip to the mid 20's in most of my mock drafts. Are the masses always wrong?

Hamilton - I had him last year and yeah when he's on, he's sensational. But it's key that this is a H2h league. Because only win HR's and power categories by so much in one week. Josh has more value in a Roto, when those streaks just add to a pile.

I went with Joey Bats and Troy Tulowitski. I think Bautista's batting average comes back to the .270-.290 range, good lineup and decent hitter' spark.

I'll take the under on .260 from Bautista. Pretty much nobody who hits the ball in the air as much as he does keeps an AVG over .260.
