Does my Team have a shot? WHIR

Postby jbird669 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:25 am

Had my auction yesterday in the league I helped found 20 years ago. 5×5 $260 in season cap, no IP max. My keepers are in bold, 18% draft inflation. One caveat our league instituted: any leftover auction $ goes into FAAB, subject to the cap. Whattya think?

Wilin Rosario(Col – C) $9
Edwin Encarnacion (Tor – 1B) $2
Dustin Pedroia(Bos – 2B) $29
Martin Prado(Ari – 2B,3B,SS,OF) $18
Alcides Escobar(KC – SS) $8
Justin Upton(Atl – OF) $36
Nick Markakis(Bal – OF) $15
Josh Reddick(Oak – OF) $14
Michael Morse (Sea – OF) $4
Norichika Aoki (Mil – OF) $3

Brandon Belt(SF – 1B) $5
Howie Kendrick (LAA – 2B) $8
Cliff Lee (Phi – P) $17
Josh Beckett(LAD – P) $5
Edwin Jackson(ChC – P) $4
John Axford(Mil – P) $13
Glen Perkins (Min – P) $3
Kenley Jansen (LAD – P) $4
Joaquin Benoit (Det – P) $3

Mike Fiers(Mil – P) $8
Tommy Milone(Oak – P) $9
Drew Smyly(Det – P) $3
Cory Luebke(SD – P) $4
Adam LaRoche(Was – 1B) $9
Josh Rutledge(Col – 2B,SS) $1
Bobby Parnell(NYM – P) $8

Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray

Thanks for the help in mine. I have never done an auction so you may want to take as a grain of salt.

how many teams are in the league?

What does the top players go for, $40+, $50+?

Guys I like for value:
Rutledge, Morse, Belt, Aoki, Encarnacion (Great value), Prado (can play anywhere), I think Beckett has a bounce back year, Lee is solid for this year but is on the decline.

Sorry, 12 team 5x5 Roto league.

The "consensus" Top 20 players were all kept. Highest priced player in the auction was $39 - Matt Holliday.

jbird, thanks for the help on mine!

As for me, I don't have much experience with auction-style drafts, but I think you are lacking a bit in power. For what it's worth though, Encarnacion for $2 has to be a steal no matter what style draft!

I dont know about Upton at $36 but I guess some one else in your league wanted him at $35. I would try and get a better 1B. I not sure how much you can depend on belt and laroche.

I am hoping Encarnacion fits the bill ;)

My rankings had Upton at $34 but I know I needed a stud OFer, as the top 10 were kept. I admit I was bidding up LaRoche and Edwin Jackson, but I got stuck with them. I may try to trade LaRoche for an SP.

Thanks for the help with mine, but I've never done auction draft, so I can't really say if you drafted well or not. Not the biggest fan of your pitching staff, but it is a deep league. Like the Prado pickup.
